Advanced Context Menu - PLM Communication

In the Admin Console there's a popup context menu for any device called Advanced/PLM Communication. When selected a popup window is shown where you can set different values for "Communication to the PLM". The values range from No Retires to 9 Retries. I can't find an explanation for what this is for. Any ideas?

Being that's it's device specific I would assume that if a device has marginal communications between it and the PLM increasing the PLM retires might improve reliability. On the other hand increasing retries will create additional traffic on the mesh network.
