Insteon Inventory

@Papa C Don't blink!

Over the last couple of years, Smarthome's Insteon Inventory has been sporadically available. There are multiple threads all over IoT forums talking about it. The bottom line is no one other than Smarthome knows if Insteon product is gone for good or just a casualty of the supply chain troubles.

PLM's are the highest cause of worry for existing Insteon users as they can kill an entire system if they go bad, but there are now multiple choices for repair from DIY to a guy on EBay repairing them for a fee.

The Polisy is a direct replacement for the current ISY994i with extended capabilities including z-wave 700 compatibility and the ability to run Polyglot servers acorss multiple ISY's, and the full complement of Polyglot 2 (PG2) node servers as well as the soon to be released Polyglot 3 (PG3) node servers. The Polisy requires a z-wave dongle for z-wave and currently supports the z-wave 700 S2 stick from Zooz.

ISY on the Polisy (IoP) is fully functional and allows you to restore form your existing ISY994i to facilitate a quick migration. Z-wave certification has not been completed, but z-wave support on the Polisy is working quite well. Most of the z-wave issues people report come from specific z-wave products or a lack of user knowledge about z-wave and what to expect.

There is  a lot of talk about alternatives to Insteon due to the lack of inventory and the historically bad support from Smarthome for their products. Z-wave is an obvious choice, but there are plenty of others. Each technology comes with it's own set of obstacles and most require some kind of a mesh to work well. Ultimately automation like all technology is constantly evolving. There is no best choice, only the one that works for you in this moment.

If you wait for the perfect technology, it will be a long wait.

I upgraded to ioP this week, and i am actively removing insteon from my home. Just removed my first switch over the weekend. I went with Z-wave, and while ISY software may not be as slick as it is for insteon, it is getting my jobs done. I myself got tired of the insteon availability game.
