Adding Insteon LampLinc 2456D3: Cannot Determine Insteon Engine error

Hi- I'm trying to add a LampLinc 2456D3 (Rev 4.4) to my system, and am running into the Cannot Determine Insteon Engine error message. I've updated my ISY994i/IR PRO to v.4.9.0 per some troubleshooting advice that I found in another thread. I'm still receiving the error message. Level 3 log attached.

Any thoughts / troubleshooting ideas?

Thanks.

The module is not responding back to the ISY994i.  As there are no received message back showing in the log.

Double check you have the right six digit Insteon ID when you are trying to add it. Some digits are easy to read incorrectly. Like 0 and D are one we see.

The 2456D is the older power line only type module. You may want to try adding it on a different outlet or maybe even the same branch circuit as the PLM. If it works there. You may have a signal coupling issue if it is on the other phase of the incoming power or power line noise, signal sucker issue. Do you have any Dual Band modules to couple the two phases?

This is the start of adding a 2856D2 V4.3 ID# 16.81.F0

The line showing the module responded back. [ INST-SRX  ]  Is what I don't see in your LOG.

UI is Insteon_UD994 v 4.9.0 (2020-12-22-11:51:19)

Factory reset plug in module. Bring it closer to PLM, choose start linking, press and hold set button until it pops up on console

Brian/lilyoyo1-

I've tried some of the suggestions that you have made. I confirmed the address that I was trying to add to the system. I have several dual band modules in the various switches in the system that I have at the house. I tried to plug the trouble module into the same outlet as the PLM. Same results. Factory reset the module with no change. Finally, I tried to add the troubled module to the system, and pressed the set button....nothing came up in the console window, and eventually it timed out with the same error message.

The module that I have was purchased off of e-bay, so I'm starting to think that I might have made a donation for a DOA module.

Thanks for the help.

Did you see if you could manually link it to another device

Tried to manually link the new switch to one of the many wall switches that I have....no luck there either....but I'll have to read up more on how to manually link devices as I've never had to link them that way before.

Thanks

Keep in mind that manual linking to another device is only a testing procedure, it's not something that should be done on a permanent basis.  That suggestion is an attempt to determine if the switch is faulty.

Another approach is to plug into the same place as the PLM... generally I use a plug strip to to this.    If you can add the device that way, and then move it back to it's installed location and it again can't communicate, then you have an Insteon communication issue for which there are several wiki pages.

If you manually, or tried to, link to another device without using the ISY then you'll have link tables in those devices that shouldn't be there if you're using the ISY as your controller, so it's best to then factory reset those devices to clear their link tables.
