bhihifi Posted February 27, 2022 Posted February 27, 2022 @CPrince, I'm a total newbie when it comes to ISY. I have a 2245-222 Hub that failed. I fixed the Hub by replacing C7, but I don't want to stick with an unreliable system. I also use a Z-wave hub for both security and Z-wave lighting. I'm going all in on ISY on Policy because: 1. I like the idea of having all lighting devices on one platform to make scenes and programs combining Insteon and Z-wave devices. 2. Insteon has redundancy because each device stores its own links. So your Insteon scenes will still work with physical button/switch presses even if your controller is disconnected (like when the Hub fails). So I don't need redundancy at the controller level to have the system work. 3. Scenes and programs remain local, so, in theory, even if I temporarily lose an Internet connection, devices can still be controlled. I don't believe the Hub works without an Internet connection. 4. Alexa works well with the Portal and the UD mobile app for devices and scenes. I've read that Alexa can used for interacting with programs though I have not yet progressed to this. I'll try to do all the control at ISY and use Alexa as a human interface device, without it doing automation. I will use the rooms concept in Alexa unless someone can point out an alternative. Alexa rooms allow me to include Echo devices and other things that I don't need to control with ISY. 5. Support for ISY is robust, thanks to this community. Insteon support is now e-mail only, and I'm not sure they have the A-team doing it. If you decide to migrate from the Hub, I suggest you e-mail support@smarthome.com and request a list of devices connected to the Hub. You'll need to give them your user ID and a picture of the Hub with label. This will speed up your task as you have all of the Insteon IDs and your existing labels. They send you an Excel spreadsheet which makes adding devices to ISY by ID easy. This way you don't have to remove switchplates to get ID's. Or you can get them one-by-one using the Insteon app.
