DevonSprings Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Hi All, I know I should call Smarthome but I thought there would be a lot more expertise here. I want to hook a Insteon Relay Switch and a Motion Sensor in parallel. I am assuming since its a relay linc that applying 120v to the load of the switch should not be a problem, even in the off position. I wonder what others think. Any reason not to do this. I used to have a sensing In-line linc up there but it's gone, and with the demise of Insteon I can't buy another one. I'm literally going to take a RelayLink Switch right out of the wall and put a different switch in there that I have. I really appreciate it, Devon
mmb Posted February 4, 2022 Posted February 4, 2022 Sensors I use operate at low voltage which could be used to power the low voltage side of a relay. The high voltage side of the relay would be used to power the light.

upstatemike Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 (edited) I think DevonSprings is trying to set it up so he can turn the switch on to keep the light on or turn the switch off to have the light only come on when there is motion. Settings on the motion sensor will disble daytime operation. I don't see any problem with the wiring diagram posted except there probably needs to be a neutral connection to the motion sensor. mmb Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 I see, my setup is Blue Iris to monitor motion and it sends triggers to my ISY which turns on an Insteon light switch then after 5 minutes or so it turns off. Of course you can turn on the lights as usual with the switch. Recordings are in full color thanks to the light. I wasn't clear if the motion switch was in the light like the type you can get at HomeDepot. If so should be fine.

And because of the "lack of insteon parts available" I have to take one out of the wall, and put in a six that I had there. In most of my house, the "in-wall" switches are just hooked up hot and neutral then I have a box at each track light with a dimmer in it. I have 34 track bars in the house all with their own dimmers. Outside I have inline-link relay with sense, but it never really worked well enough, I had them ganged so if anyone moved then it was supposed to turn on the whole thing. I think maybe Micros would have worked better. With Thanks, Devon
