Planned or Unplanned maintenance

I don't know if this mornings forum maintenance was planned or emergency in nature.  But can we please try to do these sometime other than the middle of the morning... AND announce them in advance (like portal maintenance is announced in advance).  

I typed a long explanation to someone this morning, and this maintenance ate it-- the replacement reply I typed ended up containing much less information.
