roberthleeii Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 Is it possible to control bathroom vent fans with the ISY (z-wave wall switches)? I would like to be able to control the vent fans in our bathroom with the ISY, and ideally be able to have some sort of speed control like a regular celling fan. We are redoing our master bathroom and will have two different exhaust fans and it would be nice to control them based on situations and not have to run them full blast all the time because of the noise. Right now we have a ceiling fan in our bathroom that keeps the air circulating but we are planning on removing it and putting in recessed lighting. (recessed above fan = strobe light ??). Also, my kids keep leaving their exhaust fan on in their bathroom ?♂️?♂️.
lilyoyo1 Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 (edited) Yes it's possible. Add switches and program. No different than with lights. Vent fans are generally on/off so no speed control. The models that allow for different speeds generally have a switch built in to change the CFM. You wouldn't be able to control that Edited April 15, 2022 by lilyoyo1 1

Speed control would defeat the purpose of vent fans. They're there to exchange a certain amount of volume of air efficiently. Slowing that down defeats that purpose. Ceiling fans allows for speed control because they're designed to make a person feel cooler which allows for adjustment to achieve the desired results Edited April 15, 2022 by lilyoyo1 1

I figured a couple of exhaust fans running at a lower speed could pull some fresh air in to make the room more comfortable. I think the fan takes up too much room. Ata a minimum i am going to replace it with a lower profile one with out a light kit once we get the can lights put in.
dbuss Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 Panasonic Whisper series bathroom fans are very quiet and work well. 1

A properly sized fan for your space will accomplish what you're trying to do 1
