Will the Smartlinc 2412N (ethernet) work with the ISY to run my Insteon devices? I sure hope there's a way

It seems as though EBay users are already selling the 2413S for HUGE prices... sigh.

I have this 2412N and HOPE it can be somehow used.  Before I buy an ISY controller, I want to know that I can actually use it.

Thanks in advance to all that might consider replying

I know just wanted to throw you a jab and say hi. ?

Hi! Glad you finally made an appearance. I'm a little disappointed since it took almost a week for you to show up....and we can't even argue. I miss our debates  ?. Everyone else gets offended. Lol

There wasn't anything to argue about or debate as everything you stated on the forums was - True! ? Like you I come on the forums to read the latest tech, learn new things, and help out where and when I can.

I don't come here to argue or to force my views on others . . .

The only reason I came back this week was (again) you and others provided critical insight as to the current affairs relating to Insteon.

I won't lie part of me wanted this to be a chip shortage and just slow aszz management. But you know what they say about hope.

*Hope don't float* ?

So...with all due respect, I have been following.   I KNOW they've shut down the servers.  I was just hoping beyond hope...apparently...That BEFORE BUYING an ISY that there might be SOME way to kluge this controller to work with it.

There is a lot of dust in the air right now over all this...I get it... but after looking around here in the basement junk piles, this smartlinc 2412N was all I have that comes close to an interface of any kind...it came out of the old Securlinc system I still have in a box of unused stuff.

I guess I'll throw money and time at the ISY and see what sticks.

at least there's the fact that the Insteon Switches and outlets and thermostats work manually, still.

I am sure I'll have more "newbie" questions after I buy the ISY...

NOW to figure out WHICH model to buy.

It was that for a time. All I ever said was using info i was given at a time. I'm just happy different forces lined up to allow my business model to change where this doesn't impact me at all. I just hate it for everyone else.

Get a polisy and 2448a7 (get 2 for backup) from Amazon and use that

I hate to add more to burst your bubble. But, the 2412N has a higher failure rate than the 2413S PLM. There's something wrong with the network card on that specific unit so don't put too much time on that device.

For a band aid it will work to get the most basic things but given it has no conditional logic, real timers, its a waste of time.

As it relates to a new controller you simply can't go wrong with buying either device. But, for the long term it makes a lot more sense to purchase the Polisy Pro.

I've taken the advice, both the polisy pro and 2448a7 are on order

now I hope this non-software-programming 60 year old can get it done. Being a HAM, I've been keeping up with a lot and even have 3-D printing under my belt....and a little arduino.  SO I imagine I can handle it. but I am getting to the age of just wanting things to work with out a ton of hassle

but this Home automation stuff seems to be like HAM Radio...a lot of tinkering. Which is fine.

ah well...it's all part of the adventure, right?

Given you're an obvious DIY, HAM, and over all tech guy. None of this will be hard for you besides an investment of time and effort. Regardless, the community at large is here ready to provide insight, guidance, and feedback - if needed.

Rock On . . . ? ?

THANK YOU!   Ordered.

Just be sure when you order your controller from UDI that you order the Polisy which works with this USB PLM. The older ISY994 controller might be made to work using USB with a hack but the Polisy is the controller you want going forward anyway so get that.

SO the Pro wouldn't be a better option for future expansion?

I didn't get the Pro because I connect via Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi and I couldn't foresee any near term use for the Bluetooth function. You will have to decide for yourself if those are more important to you than the urgency of getting something up and running.

The pro contains a wifi and bluetooth radio that's not included in the non-pro, AFAIK that's the only different.  With today's software and firmware the Pro features are not used.   You could conceivable use the wifi to connect to your network, but if you have a way to hardwire you would pick that method.

I have both versions and don't foreseea need for the pro at anytime in the near future. Should that change, the modules can always be added later

I have both also and agree, the Pro radios won't be needed soon, and if and when they are I'm sure there will be a way to add them.
