Due to the sunset of Insteon, I bought the Zwave module for my ISY 994I.

I bought 2 toggle switches mainly for zwave coverage in my house.  When I added the switches, it actually adds 8 devices.   Only one of the devices has any control.  What is the purpose of the other devices?

Noticed the same thing with the Zen17, my first Z-Wave item. There seems to be duplication in the nodes, and some nodes are actually non-functional. I tried deleting the unused nodes, but they came back. I put them all in their own folder to keep it tidier. Don't know if you can group them as well.

It may be that there is some sort of Z-Wave device definition that requires a certain general framework for compatibility.

Love to hear, from someone that is informed on this.

Sometimes you end up with extra nodes when you install a new Z-wave device. It's an anomaly between the ISY and Z-wave devices.

You can create a new folder, call it unused nodes, and park those unused nodes in the folder.

So they don't have any real function?

I'm probably going to put them in a folder like you said to avoid the confusion of which one is the functional one.
