Trouble adding First Alert smoke & CO detector

Running version 5.3.0 with the ZWave Plus module and a bunch of other working Z-Wave devices.

I am trying to add a First Alert Smoke and CO detector model ZCOMBO.

When I go through the device include procedure (by using the "Add a Z-Wave device on the ISY Z-Wave menu and holding the test button on the detector down when sliding battery tray in), I see the following in my ISY Log:

I can then remove the device from the network and see:

If I try to remove the device again I get (showing that the device did get removed):

So it appears that the device can communicate with my network and ISY, but for some reason no nodes get added. Should this work? Any suggestions?

I know that Z-Wave is not intended for life critical applications, but an email alert to a smoke, CO, or low battery condition is still useful if I don't happen to be home.

After pressing the set button did you release it before you tried to include it into the ISY? It will stay in the linking mode for 30 seconds once released.

You also might want to update your ISY firmware to the latest version 5.3.4, which has bug fixes.

I am running 5.4.4 now but was running 5.4.3 and I have First Alert Zwave smoke detector. It included with no problems. So it should work.

Updated to 5.3.4. Same results. (I assume 5.3.4 is the most current for ISY 994i. The 5.4 stuff is for Polisy right?)

Try moving the smoke detector closer, within 10 feet, to your ISY, then do an exclude device.

Factory reset the detector, then try another Include. 

Note: the 5.4.4 firmware mentioned in the post above by @tlightne is only for the Polisy and will not work on the ISY

Sorry did not intend to muddy of the waters. When I was on ISY it was 5.3.4 and had the Zwave smoke detector working no issues.

And if I try to add it again, I get similar, but with an additional sync request line. It really looks like it's talking and added to the Z-Wave network (with a device ID), but for some reason ISY doesn't know how to add the nodes (or know what kind of device it is.)

Is your ISY firmware and UI the same version? If not, then clear your java cache including applications and download a new version of the ISY launcher.

Try excluding it again, then reboot the ISY and try including it one more time, if you're still unsuccessful then I would open a support ticket with UDI. Not sure if the issue is with the device or the ISY.

Being that @tlightne has the device working on his ISY it's not a compatibility issue.

Hi @Rex,

Some zwave devices need to be within a couple of feet of the ISY, literally right next to each other, during initial linking.  This appears to be the case with many devices which support zwave secure inclusion. Once the devices are next to each other, exclude then include.

@TechmanFirmware and UI versions are the same.

@JaviTried at 6 inches instead of 6 feet. Same results. Log looks the same as above, but with a new Id (now 25 instead of 24).
