kfrazack Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 I recently put a new battery in my gate sensor. Since then the IO linc that controls the gate double triggers. For example when I trigger it in the ISY control panel, two signals are sent about 7-8 seconds apart. This causes my gate to stop about half open. I can’t imagine that the gate sensor had anything to do with this. Might have been coincidental. But I can’t figure it out.
Brian H Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 Can you describe the connections? Like the sensor is connected to the sensor input of the I/OLinc, the relay output from the I/OLinc is triggering the gates opener. Relay set to the default continuous or has a momentary on time.
kfrazack Posted August 30, 2022 Author Posted August 30, 2022 I played with it a bunch. Couldn't get it to work. Ultimately just reset the device to factory settings, deleted it from the ISY, added it back to the ISY and now working. Thanks for the prompt reply though. 2
Brian H Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 Glad you got it working again. Since it is power line only. It just could have been line garbage causing it to have some bad information in it. That your actions corrected. It has a switching power supply in it and there where a few different capacitors used. Keeping an eye on it may show it is fine or the problem happens again.
kfrazack Posted August 30, 2022 Author Posted August 30, 2022 Thanks for the info. Hopefully it's a one time problem. I've some modules for 10+ years and only now starting to have some minor issues. These things are built like tanks.
kfrazack Posted August 30, 2022 Author Posted August 30, 2022 Well happened again. Guess that means the unit is done.
Techman Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 Take a look at your event log to see if the IOLinc is receiving multiple on/off commands. If you don't see more than one command then it could be spurious powerline signals such as the gate motor that's creating noise on the powerline. 1
Brian H Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 (edited) Techman has a very good idea. If you see more than one command. Then the I/OLinc maybe fine and just following orders. If it is not being sent more than one command. You can see if the opener works correctly. By tapping the set button on the side. It should toggle the relay on and off. Not sure if you opener normally uses a pule from a relay. My though would be C7. My V 1.0 had a 10uF/25V. A V 1.8 10uF/50V laying sideways as it was too large to sit in the solder holes. My V 2.3 220uF/50V also mounted sideways. 25V is low as the supply is around 20V. 10uF maybe low as it has to supply all the current when the relay turned on. Maybe possible if the cap is going bad. The relay my double pulse. I don't think they where a capacitor designed for a switching power supply also. I have a list of all of the caps in them if you are interested. Solution kfrazack Posted September 7, 2022 Author Solution Posted September 7, 2022 Well took me forever to figure this out. Bought a new IO linc, thought everything was working and then same issue. Problem happened when I updated my ISY firmware from 4.x.x to 5.x.x. Some key programs that were disabled, became enabled. I had a series of programs (all disabled) to open and close the gate that would trigger only when invoked by Alexa. Some of them became enabled. Two of the programs monitored the gate status and if it was closed would open the gate and vice versa. But they enabled and always on. Everytime I would open the gate, one of the programs would see it open and then close it and vice versa. All I had to do was disable the programs. What a headache. But if this helps anyone else at least it was worth it. And now I have an extra IO Linc
Brian H Posted September 7, 2022 Posted September 7, 2022 Good to see you found the problem. I have seen some posts where a 4.xxx to 5.xxx sometimes needed manual intervention. 1
kfrazack Posted September 7, 2022 Author Posted September 7, 2022 Thanks for the help. I did use the logs. That pointed me to the gate sensor. When I disabled it, everything worked. Then everything fell into place.
