Blackbird Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 (edited) Im about to upgrade to IoP and reading that I need the original serial cable that came with the PLM. I have no idea if it is the original but it works fine with my ISY. I am using an ethernet cable (RJ45 to RJ45)to connect from the plm to the ISY. Edited October 11, 2022 by Blackbird

Absolutely ridiculous for a cable! But thanks Edited October 12, 2022 by Blackbird
kzboray Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 (edited) @Blackbird Wow that's insane. Here's a good post on how to build one from scratch.https://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/35441-long-serial-cable-for-plm-works-great/?do=findComment&comment=331996 You really only need pins 1,7 &8. Will do, thanks
Brian H Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 Yes it did have the RJ45 to DB9 serial cable in the box. Only three wires used. Hidden in the shipping cradle and not well pointed out.
Blackbird Posted October 12, 2022 Author Posted October 12, 2022 Ive talked to two other people and none had a cable. Oh well

Oh well They were shipped with original PLMs, sorry you didn't find yours. Probably thrown out with the box. Since I still have a new 2413s in the original box, here's how it was hidden from you: Note: the glue on the device carrier in the box has deteriorated and is no longer holding the carrier in shape. The left flap on the circled portion was originally glued making that a solid "rectangular tube".
Brian H Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 Smarthome was very consistent with using the same cable. They where also used in the serial port connections on their X10 modules. Though some of the other pins in the RJ45 style connector where varied signals.
brians Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 (edited) Yes very easy to make one... I used one of these (I have many laying around from old Cisco days)... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rollover_cable I cut off the existing RJ45 end, then checked continuity using a multi-meter on the serial port end to locate the wires for appropriate pins 2, 3, and GND. Note that not all cables are made same and some have different colors, so cannot really make a guide based on color. I then used a new RJ45 crimp connect and connected the correct wires pins to 1,7,8. Since I work in IT, have experience in cabling/terminating, and I have these tools, it may be be a challenge for many others. Therefore what you can do is cut the existing cable back a bit further or in half, and just figure out which wires on each end correspond to what pins using a multi-meter and reconnect the wires appropriately (preferably solder, but twisting/taping would work) instead of crimping a new end on. Lots available here for cheap.... https://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313&_nkw=cisco+console+cable&_sacat=0 Edited October 13, 2022 by brians

Myself, my uncle and my friend all dont remember having a cable in the box and we all bought it from Aartech.
