Goose66 Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 (edited) My new townhome has sufficient living space, but significantly less utility closets and unused/dead spaces than my house did. I need to install my Polisy Pro (destined to include ZMatter board) in a central location in the home - perhaps a laundry room or hallway. It needs to be installed with an Insteon PLM and a small Li+ UPS (like the TalentCell unit). WAF probably requires that it be installed inside a box, either one flush mounted in the wall or perhaps surface mounted (if in the laundry room). Has anybody had experience with mounting a Polisy with Wi-fi and/or Zwave radios inside an enclosure and/or wall mounting such in a visible location, and what solutions have you found? Geddy Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 @Goose66 This is the closest thing I've seen to what you're looking for... There was an older post for in the "geek batch" area:
MrBill Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 There are structured wiring enclosures made of ABS that shouldn’t interfere with radio, such as: Legrand - OnQ ENP3050-NA WiFi Compatible, Electrical Box Structured Media Enclosure, 30 inch, White https://a.co/dakJFt8 is that something like what you had in mind? 1

The OnQ boxes on Amazon were exactly what I was looking at. I was just wondering if anyone had put the Polisy, PLM, and maybe a UPS or transformer all in a box like that and what the performance was. It would certainly be nice just to mount it on the wall open like @Geddy's picture, but I don't think that would fly with the wife - especially if it is in the hallway. I particularly like the built-in bubble level. Can't have the whole thing tilting and all the electrons pooling on one side! 😁 Edited November 3, 2022 by Goose66
MrBill Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 those can be recessed so just the cover shows. Then you can do like we do for the breaker box and hang artwork in front of it. I wouldn't think ABS would degrade the signal. On my home assistant box i had to use 3 USB extension cord to get the zigbee dongle away from the Pi. Not sure if it was moving it away and higher or changing the orientation that did the trick it works good tho, the only zigbee device it's driving is on the other side of the house. I thought I was going to have to add a few lightbulbs as zigbee routers(repeaters) but just adding the 3' USB extention cord was enough. 1 1
brians Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 Since adding ZMatter board and antennas, I cannot rest the Polisy on its side anymore on top of wall mounted UPS I went looking for a nice wall mount shelf and just purchased this... will update with pics when I get. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B09TFZ2FVR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 1
brians Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 (edited) Got the shelf and installed (there were two in box like other Amazon reviewers mentioned). Worked out good. My Polisy is in basement furnace room and you can see PLM plugged in via the blue custom serial cable I made out of a Cisco console cable. Before this, I had polisy resting sideways on top of the UPS but with the ZMatter antennas that would no longer work. Edited December 19, 2022 by brians 1
