simonw Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 My experience with the "replace device" command has been somewhat disappointing. Maybe I'm trying to use it outside the box, but I want to switch in a new device to replace an existing device across all my various scenes and programs. Trouble is the list of devices in "replace with ..." is disappointingly short. Looks like you are limited to identical devices, but I have several times wanted to substitute an ApplianceLinc for a LampLinc or vice-versa, and that doesn't seem possible. I can imagine wanting to substitute KPL buttons for RL buttons too ... is that going to be a no-go also?
markens Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 I ran into this limitation when replacing a device with a newer one of the same model number. Specifically, a 2476S Switchlinc relay. I understand the probable reasoning behind this (newer/older switches have additional/reduced functionality). Even if such devices cannot be "replaced" directly, it would be nice to have some better way to migrate scene memberships to a new "not quite the same" device.
Michel Kohanim Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Hello all, The problems are, in short, "unpredictability": we cannot reliably guarantee that a device replacement will work with a device of another type (especially device category). In short, we are just playing it safe especially due to some very bad experiences. With kind regards, Michel
