Brian H Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Sorry I have no data on SwitchLinc relay versions. Other than my real old 2.0 and 2.1s are in the range of bad tact switches where the paddles stops working. Smarthome will replace those if they get intermittent.
IndyMike Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Hi Mitch, I have a number of the V.2C SWL relay units. I haven't had a problem with these, nor do I remember problems with this firmware revision being reported. They are older units, but that does not mean they shouldn't perform well in your system. I'm beginning to understand your log below, and I believe you're making progress. You appear to be using the event viewer in mode 1. Please switch to mode 2 or 3 for additional information. Rand, I did a little experiment from my office (I'm not at home). I opened the Event Viewer and then turned on each of the porch lights one at a time. The first two turned on fine with only one line of info (I'm guessing that's one hop). On the third light I saw this (this includes the first two lights): Tue 03/02/2010 11:15:14 AM : [ B BE D3 1] ST 255 Tue 03/02/2010 11:15:33 AM : [ B BB 7B 1] ST 255 Tue 03/02/2010 11:15:39 AM : [ 13 3E 67 1] ST 255 Tue 03/02/2010 11:15:40 AM : [MOD 2 2 1 11] 50000.000000 Weather - Wind Speed = 5 mph Tue 03/02/2010 11:15:40 AM : [MOD 2 2 1 13] 90000.000000 Weather - Wind Direction = S Tue 03/02/2010 11:15:40 AM : [MOD 2 2 1 18] 25000.000000 Weather - Light = 2.5 Tue 03/02/2010 11:15:40 AM : [MOD 2 2 1 19] 22000.000000 Weather - Light Rate = 2.2 And recieved an error message about not being able to communicate with the Device. Perhaps the porch lights somehow activiate the Climate module causing too much traffic? In your log above you turned on devices 1,2 and 3 manually from the ISY GUI. When you use the GUI to turn on a specific device the ISY uses "Direct communication mode" which requires a response from the device. When you turned on device 4 it did not respond to the ISY and you received the "unable to communicate with xx device". This may have been due to one or more of the following: 1) Turning on devices 1 - 3 created noise on the powerline and prevented device 4 from responding. 2) Turning on device 4 generated noise (additive) preventing a response. The following shows the typical command/response from the ISY to a device when using mode 3 in the event viewer. Direct mode Off command [iNST-ACK] 02 62 10.DA.4C 0F 13 00 06 LTOFFRR(00) {ISY OFF transmit} [iNST-SRX] 02 50 10.DA.4C 0C.A8.B4 27 13 00 LTOFFRR(00) {Device response to the ISY} [standard-Direct Ack][10.DA.4C-->ISY/PLM Group=0] Max Hops=3, Hops Left=1 {ISY explanation of device response} [ 10 DA 4C 1] ST 0 {ISY displaying device status ON} Direct mode On command [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 10.DA.4C 0F 11 FF 06 LTONRR (FF) {ISY ON transmit} [iNST-SRX ] 02 50 10.DA.4C 0C.A8.B4 2B 11 FF LTONRR (FF) {Device response to the ISY} [standard-Direct Ack][10.DA.4C-->ISY/PLM Group=0] Max Hops=3, Hops Left=2 {ISY explanation of device response}[/b] [ 10 DA 4C 1] ST 255 {ISY displaying device status ON} Direct mode Off command - Device is unplugged [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 10.DA.4C 0F 13 00 06 LTOFFRR(00) {ISY OFF transmit} {No response from device - it's unplugged} ISY displays the nasty "cannot communicate with device xx" window I really believe this has to do with your loads generating noise. Since you can reproduce the effect from the GUI, try turning off all four devices, then activate only unit 4. Hopefully you can narrow things down to a particular load (CFL). Be careful with your conclusions. All CFLs generate some noise. The noise could be additive. IM
mitch236 Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 Ok, I ran the Then part of my porch light Program and only three of the four devices responded. mitch236 Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 The other thing I've noticed is that if the lights are not all synchronized, then I get alot of "Cannot Communicate" errors. Once I turn all the lights in the Scene off then on and they are all synchronized, I can query them all and they are again recognizable. And I only have issues with the Relays. There is one SwitchLinc Dimmer in the Scene (and I don't want to jinx it but...) it never gives me problems!
Sub-Routine Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Hi Mitch, I think it is already jinxed. Can you substitute another switch or ask Smarthome to send you a replacement? mitch236 Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 I already contacted them and I will be replacing the Relays. Is it common to get communication errors when all the Devices in a Scene are not synchronized?
Sub-Routine Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Hello mitch236, I'm glad Smarthome is replacing the switches, keep us posted on the outcome please. It shouldn't matter if the devices in a scene are in sync or not. Rand I already contacted them and I will be replacing the Relays. Is it common to get communication errors when all the Devices in a Scene are not synchronized?
