Hello All...I have been an ISY994 user for close to 10 years now and have decided to upgrade to the EISY.  As I prepared to upgrade I started asking questions, as many have here.  (Does the EISY support ELK Security System, IR support, Ecobee, etc.)  Many of these questions have been answered here in the forum, but there are a few things I have yet to understand. So....

1.  What is the difference between Production and non-Production in the PG3 node server store?

2. What does a Perpetual purchase mean?  (Lifetime?)

I'm am familiar with Polyglot as my current system has a RPi running PG2.  But most of the node servers that I am running there were free.

Just trying to understand the lingo.  Thanks in advance.

Production is pretty much certified Polyglot Library while Non-Production is in development or unstable nodes, use are your own risk kind of thing.

Perpetual means never ending so yes, that means lifetime license.

@TRI0N Be careful using the word "certified". I don't think there's a real difference once a node server goes into the production store. I do not know of any "review" or process of making the change from non-production to production status. So "certified" isn't quite accurate.

@aca2b2 the reply from @TRI0N is correct in that "non-production" should be more considered a "beta testing" area. Some developers are using the non-production store as an area to test features. So while they might be usable there might be some that are still being altered and could cause problems. Of course, we've seen the same be true for "production" store node servers. Each production node server should have a forum area that hopefully the developer is monitoring to offer support.

The ability to charge for node servers was introduced as part of Polyglot 3 (PG3/PG3x). As node server popularity grew the requirement for the developers to support and maintain the node servers was seen as an area to support the developer's time and efforts by charging for a license.

Great. I appreciate the explanation and confirmation. Certainly agree with developers being able to charge for their time to create.
