Home Assistant and HA Yellow Box

I received the Yellow Box and successfully restored a backup from my RPi HA setup. However the Universal Devices IoX Integration no longer works. Other than that, HA works well. Did anyone succeed to use the HA Yellow Box with the IoX Integration ?

@asbril

I see you lucked out and got it after all. I am envious.

I hope you start a Yellow box migration thread , if you have any.

Steve

The process is relatively easy as long as you ignore the instructions 🙃. This is because the instructions describe a process as if you install HA on a RPi for the first time, while in fact HA is pre-installed on the Yellow Box.

After connecting power and ethernet cable it takes some time for the HA log in screen to come on. After the login, do a Restore from a previous backup and that should be all. Unfortunately the ISY Integration does not work and I have no idea why. I sent @shbatm a copy of the log and hopefully he can give me some guidance.

For the time being I went back to my old setup on a RPi.

@shbatm and @stevehoyt I got Yellow Box to work with IoX Integration. I created a new Backup on my old setup and restored this to the Yellow Box. It works !

I recommend the Google backup addon.  Have used it when my system died.  Does full backups.

Thanks @Mecheng70 I have been using this for quite some time already.  Very useful.

From what I understand, this Yellow box is just a prebuilt HA based on a raspberry pi 4 compute module with Zigbee/Thread (future update) board inside. Restoring to it should be no different than any other HA?

Theoretically you are right but the restore did not intially work for me and I had to make a new backup. After that, smooth sailing. Though difficult to be sure, my impression is that with the  Yellow Box reaction time of eisy based devices is faster, like immediate.

I am running it on an older Intel NUC and mine is also very fast reaction, however the specs/performance on it exceed that of a Yellow box. Probably your old Pi was the issue... curious what model it was?

I haven't decided if I should order the Sky connect USB dongle to get Thread support, or just go with a Yellow box.

I was using a RPi 3. I am not that techie and for me getting the front loaded (HA) Yellow Box was the easiest rather than getting another device and  load HA myself.

I just looked and the thing is $124 without the rpi compute module, and those are not readily available right now. I decided to order the Sky connect USB instead, I have a few more older NUCs I can use if something happens to this one :)

That's the one I got, and now I'm stuck with no reasonable source for the CM4.  Dang it.
