There has been a message on my ST-Sonos nodeserver that 1.0.8 is available and to restart to update.  I've restarted many times over a few weeks and the message it still there and I still show at version 1.0.5.

Are you on eisy? Which version of PG3 are you running? Some versions had trouble updating/update available message. The latest version 3.1.23 for eisy was suppose to correct the issue.

I haven't seen this issue on Polisy's PG3 and I am on v 3.1.18, which I think is the latest.

In some instances, to get the update, reinstalling in the same slot worked. In other instances, you had to remove the node server and then reinstall. Be carful, if you do this, you will need to setup the configuration page again.

Some older node servers/older versions of node servers can't auto-update because PG3 doesn't have enough information to know what to update.  In those cases, selecting the correct install option / re-install to same slot should update the node server.
