Ryze SmartShades

Did a forum search- 0 hits.'

Todays' blog post about motorizing your shades mentioned Ryze to control existing shades.  Seems like a nice enough, albeit expensive option. The motor costs almost as much as the romans I'd attach them to. Then when you add a battery pack, it's the same price as a nice shade.

Are these supported by Iox? Is the hub required?  I can't find any information. Tech specs only say that the motor is Bluetooth LE and they advertise a smartphone app.  I really don't need an app to change my shades- I can get up and rotate the chain a lot faster than I can find and launch a smartphone app and wait for it to connect, etc.  There is a hub which allows "remote control" and Alexa and group scenes-  none of which I need. Connectivity for that is listed as "ethernet" and "2.4ghz."  Wifi?  BLE? Required for ISY connectivity?  There is no node server I can find for this either. I'd like to write a program to adjust the shade level based upon season plus the amount of light registered by the CAO tag I have sitting on the parting rail for each of those windows.

If it's mentioned in the blog I assume it's supported somehow--- any idea how? Don't want to plunk down $500 for an experiment on 2 shades.

I'm not sure if a forum section has been created for the RYSE node server yet. It's a new node server.

Like most node servers, the information is a bit light.  https://github.com/BME-nodeservers/docs/blob/master/udi-ryse-poly.md

The RYSE bridge is required.  The node server connects to the bridge, queries it for what shades are installed (so, yes you do need the app to do the initial installation), and then creates IoX nodes for each shade that it finds.  The bridge requires an ethernet connection. I don't believe the one I have supports WiFi.  The node server can set the position of the shades and, if supported, the speed that they move.  So, yes you can have a IoX programs to adjust the shade position based on external variables like amount of light and season.

Full disclosure. RYSE did work with me to provide the necessary information to write the node server and a sample unit to test with.

How did you search for a node server?  It's listed under RYSE-shades in the production node server store.
