Tstat temp status graph

When I used to use Homeseer in the old days, I could easily get to know what the temp was in the house over time. I would love to get the ability to see the "status" temp in a graph. If there is some way to do this, I am unaware of it.

Thanks in advance,

Hi W,

Please use Tools | Chart (Trend). From the categories choose ST and then choose your thermostat.

With kind regards,

Michel

I am trying to plot the current (actual) temperature from the Insteon thermostat, but that option doesn't seem to be available on the Options list, and selecting "Status" only produces a blank chart for the Thermostat.

Please download the logs (Tools | Log) and make sure you have many points available for status for the thermostat.

Michael, the current/actual temperature is not being logged, but the current/actual Humidity is being logged, which is why I'm asking. It seems to me that the unit would also lot the temperature, if it is logging humidity. Is there a way to enable temperature logging on this device?

It must be logging the actual temperature (ST/Status) ... is it not?

Michael,

Well, I see just two entries for Status from the device, over about a 2 day period of time, while there are about 360 entries for Humidity, apparently an entry every time the Humidity changes, over that same period of time.

Here are the rows from Excel for Status, if they will display OK in the post:

INSTEON Device Control Value Time User Log Type

Thermostat- Main Status 75â–‘ Mon 2013/07/08 04:03:03 AM System Log

Thermostat- Main Status 76â–‘ Mon 2013/07/08 03:36:44 PM System Log

I went back to an older log file which I had saved, and there I do see more entries, and it shows some of them with .5 degree resolution, and it looks more reasonable for trending. Here are a few rows for when the thermostat was first added to the ISY:

INSTEON Device Control Value Time User Log Type

Thermostat- Main Status 80â–‘ Sat 2013/06/29 10:51:35 PM System Log

Thermostat- Main Status 79.5â–‘ Sat 2013/06/29 11:06:25 PM System Log

Thermostat- Main Status 78.5â–‘ Sat 2013/06/29 11:52:56 PM System Log

Thermostat- Main Status 77.5â–‘ Sun 2013/06/30 01:07:39 AM System Log

Thermostat- Main Status 77â–‘ Sun 2013/06/30 02:59:09 AM System Log

Thermostat- Main Status 76â–‘ Sun 2013/06/30 05:00:24 AM System Log

Thermostat- Main Status 75â–‘ Sun 2013/06/30 07:09:05 AM System Log

Thermostat- Main Status 74.5â–‘ Sun 2013/06/30 08:12:57 AM System Log

Thermostat- Main Status 75â–‘ Sun 2013/06/30 01:43:27 PM System Log

Thermostat- Main Status 76â–‘ Sun 2013/06/30 03:07:22 PM System Log

I am controlling the thermostat device directly, using a program, without having the thermostat within a scene. Does that have anything to do with how often or what values get written into the System log?

When does the log entry get written? Even in the older segment of log file, it's not written every time it changes (with the .5 degree resolution.

I appreciate the assistance. I was not seeing the Status entries among all the other entries, so this is progress for sure.

Terry

The thermostat does not have to be in a Scene. The entry in the Log is made when the thermostat reports a temp change. The thermostat reports only after a full 1 degree change. It reports in .5 degree increments so the reported temp may or may not be a xx.5 value. The thermostat in question appears not to be reporting temp changes consistently at the present time. This could be an RF communication issue, not necessarily a thermostat issue.

What is the model number of the thermostat

Thanks, LeeG, that helps.

The thermostat is model 2441TH, installed just a couple of weeks ago. It is physically located within 8-10' of the ISY and PLM, darn near line of sight, across a narrow hall though the doorway to an office/bedroom.

When it was first installed, it logged temperature changes of 0.5 degree, fairly often, but not all the time. Some of the intervals are 1 degree (i.e. 75.5 to 74.5 or 76 to 75) but many are .5 degree changes. I'm not sure what would have changed. I did the upgrade to the latest ISY firmware, and I am not positive if that was before the thermostat was installed but I think it was.

Does this feature require an Insteon thermostat? Is there any way to graph the temperatures reported by the Elk from the keypads and stand-alone Elk temperature sensors?

I had one of my 2441ZTH thermostats stop sending temp change messages. Had to do a factory reset of the thermostat followed by a Restore Device to rebuild the link database following the factory reset. It has been reporting temp changes ever since. Some other users have posted information about a thermostat not reporting temp changes. Don't think there is a consensus at this time as to why they stop or what is required to get them started again. The 2441ZTH is somewhat unique in that being battery powered it requires a 2 degree change but it should eventually report temp. Mine stopped reporting temp completely.

Also it has been reported that Smarthome tech support has indicated the antenna is somewhat directional with best RF communication with Dual Band device being on an opposite wall in front of the thermostat.

LeeG, thanks for this information. I had not seen the other posts. Mine is 2441TH, and it's not battery powered, but I am assuming it's the same basic thermostat. I will try the Factory Reset and Restore. Since my thermostat "faces" the dual band PLM, not quite the opposite wall, but less than 10' away, I would hope the RF communication would be robust over that short distance, but of course, I have no way of knowing.

It appears that the Factory Reset did resolve the issue. Sounds like a bug to me, but since it might be difficult to reproduce, we might not get any code fix any time soon. Thanks to the folks who helped me with this.

Terry
