ZSE42 OTA Firmware Update

I updated my eisy to 5.7.0.  When I attempt to update the firmware OTA on my zooz ZSE42 water sensors  the process doesn't complete.  I may say uploading firmware to device .... or get to reading firmware on device ...... but it never completes.  Fortunately it hasn't bricked the two water sensors I have tried it on.  Has anybody had any success applying the latest ZSE42 *.gbl?  Can UD confirm it is supposed to work.  Do I need to use a ZWave stick and Simplicity Studio on my laptop to update the ZSE42 firmware outside of the eisy?

I am fairly certain that the firmware is newer.  The firmware was released in April 2023.  My sensors were purchased 1-2 years prior.  Eisy doesn't provide me any information once the initial add is complete on those sensors.  If I wait a day after inserting them into the environment,  eisy is unable to do a query on any of my ZSE42.  I know they work, because if I place them on a wet paper towel, the alerts to email and SMS are delivered.  That is why I am trying to upgrade them.  I was hoping a firmware update would resolve eisy's issues of not populating the info i.e. battery percentage, etc.  in the Admin Console.

To confirm the device's current z-wave firmware version information:  Right click on the device | X-Ray | DH Command Classes, click on go and look for the Version command class (134) and you will see something similar:

data.applicationMajor = 1 (0x00000001)
data.applicationMinor = 10 (0x0000000a)
   In this case it equates to version 1.10

@DesertRat I went through exactly this with my Zen17, it uploads the fragments properly but gets stuck on the Reading and never seems to finish. I just killed the window and with Chris Jahn's help I was able to confirm that it had indeed completed successfully.

Chris tested the same Zen17 and had the same result - stuck on Reading.

Techman shows how to confirm the version.  I believe Chris says to do a Synchronize and Update with interview before checking version.

Ok, I was able to verify that firmware on the device was 1.40.  The firmware I'm trying to put on is 1.50, so it is newer.  However, after I did an update with interview on the device as was suggested in the thread, the information in Xray was now empty.  The firmware info major and minor, plus pretty much the entire DH Commands sections were empty.  Also my rules in eisy referring to that device said it was no longer available.  I'm disappointed.  I have a new Zwave stick coming.  I think I will give up on ZWave OTA firmware updates in eisy and do firmware updates outside of eisy using Simplicity Studio.  I know that works and is pretty straightforward.  In this experience and for the Zooz ZSE42water sensors at least, eisy's ZWave OTA firmware update feature isn't ready.  Updating firmware on devices inside of eisy should not be problematic and convoluted. For the moment, I regret attempting it.

The interview failed possibly because the device may have factory reset itself as part of the upgrade (and thus the empty DH X-Ray).  Did you try removing and adding the device back?

edit: One more possibility, was the device awake when you tried to interview it?

From Zooz website (for OTA Firmware upgrades)

  • You may need to exclude and re-include the device after the update is complete for best performance. Please consider you may need to rebuild all of your automations and settings for the device.
