MKonrad Posted July 16 Posted July 16 Hello everyone! I bought a house 5 years ago that has a whole bunch of Insteon "stuff" installed, and I need some help to point me in the right direction to fix a problem. I apologize if the language I use is not the correct lingo, but I am trying to learn. I am using a ISY944i with firmware 4.7.3. I have been able to connect to it with the Universal Devices Administrative Console. I have an 8-button keypad (2486D) that used to work but now all of the lights on the keypad just blink on and off constantly. I have pulled power to the keypad, and trid to re-intiatialize it from the Administrative console with no luck. I tried to reset it to factory settings by pushing the little button under the buttons. It may be dead. I purchased a new replacement Insteon 2334-2 8 button keypad in case I need it. Questions: How do I set the address of a new keypad? Is the new keypad a direct replacement? The program shows the keypad address was 1C.15.D9 for the old keypad. Do I use the use this New Insteon Device command in the Administrative Console? Can someone reccomend the best procedure for me to replace the old keypad with the new keypad? Any other thoughts? Thanks! Quote
Techman Posted July 16 Posted July 16 (edited) First, try doing a factory reset by Pulling out the set button, then push the set button in and hold it in. The device will start a continious beep. Continue to hold the set button in until the beeping stops. The load attached to button 'A" should turn on, then in the admin console right click on that device and click on "restore device" If that doesn't fix the problem then you'll need to install the new keyad and replace the existing one. See the attached link. Be sure to backup the ISY before and after the replace process. ISY-99i/ISY-26 INSTEON:Replacing a Device - Universal Devices, Inc. Wiki (universal-devices.com) To add the new device to the admin console enter its 6 digit address in the link window, format is "xx.xx.xx" Note periods, then click OK. Note: when replacing a device, it must be like for like, i.e. an 8 button keypad for a 8 button keypad. Edited July 16 by Techman 1 Quote
Brian H Posted July 16 Posted July 16 Not too sure if they are close enough in features. If the replace with choice is there. That would be the easiest. It does sound like the old one is failing. Probably a power supply issue. Quote
MKonrad Posted July 17 Author Posted July 17 Thanks for the help! I will work on the system this weekend, and let you know how I make out. Quote
MKonrad Posted July 19 Author Posted July 19 OK some hurdles but some progress. I could not add the new Keypad by using the "Adding by Insteon Address" method. I received a "Cannot determine Insteon Engine" error. However, if I added the device by "Adding by Linking Method", the new keypad was added successfully. Now I am trying to modify the scene with the new keypad and then I will remove the old keypad when everything is working. I simply want to replace the "bad" MB KPL.B button with the "good" MB KPL 2024.B button in the programming. So how do I link the MB KPL 2024.B button as the "controller" to the MB Ceiling Fan Light? Seems simple but how is it done? How do I link a button of the keypad to the output of the fan light? Quote
MKonrad Posted July 19 Author Posted July 19 OK...asnwering my own question. I needed to define the keypad button as a "Controller" when I dragged it to the scene. Progress is happening! Quote
Techman Posted July 19 Posted July 19 (edited) @MKonrad The most likey reason you had trouble adding the new keypad is that you incorrectly entered its address. It's very easy to misread B and 8. If you had intalled the new keypad and then right clicked on the old keypad and selected "replace with" and selected the new keypad, all your scenes and programs would have had the old keypad address replaced by the new keypad address. No programing would have been necessary. Edited July 20 by Techman Quote
MKonrad Posted July 20 Author Posted July 20 I might have made a mistake. No big deal. This is good practice learning how to program the system. Quote
Geddy Posted July 20 Posted July 20 4 hours ago, Techman said: "replace with" @Techman it would be good to point out too that this process only works for items NOT IN A FOLDER. So would have had to move the original device out of the folder it appears/appeared to be in then attempt the “replace with” process. @MKonrad glad you got it sorted (seems like it anyway). I think you can also right click on a device and should have a menu option to “add to scene”. Then you select what scene to add it too. In case your device tree is very long and difficult to drag as you said you did. 1 Quote
