Do the paddle switches on 2477D dimmers "wear out"?

I have an Insteon 2477D dimmer switch controlling an overhead light. It is connected through my ISY and I can control it by "voice command" through Alexa. I have no problem turning on the light via the ISY or by voice command, but when I press the top part of the paddle to turn on the light it usually doesn't work. The "bottom" part of the paddle switch seems fine and will easily turn OFF the light, but when I try and turn it ON, I have to poke at it several times in several different places and often it just won't turn on.

I bought a new 2477D dimmer switch with a brown colour change kit and I was about to replace the entire switch, but I am now wondering if it might just be a problem with the paddle itself? Has anyone seen this (almost like the contacts are just not connecting when I try to press it ON"

It happens that the tiny pushbutton that the paddle presses can go bad. They had big problems with those back in the early Insteon days, but you might still have the odd occurance, they're mechanical afterall. these switches are pretty common and you can buy them, and repair your dimmer switch.

I'm guessing @Guy Lavoie is right.

It's a long shot, but easy to try: factory reset it followed by a restore device. Older Insteon switches that run for years can "flake out" but sometimes be recovered this way

Guy is correct.

The tact switches on the PCB get intermittent and may even click but not actually make contact. When the paddle mechanically activate the tact switch. There was a repair instructions on how some one did the repair.

There was a early production run of the 2476 Switchlinc that we actually gave us an extended warranty [back when Smarthome sold an add on 7 year warranty ] if the switches went bad. I had a few myself.
