coinserv Posted Wednesday at 05:03 PM Posted Wednesday at 05:03 PM (edited) I see the announcement that there is something called OS 14.1 that will be available this month. I was looking for where and how it is downloaded/installed. I am finding nothing so far. Even when I look at running versions in my EISY I see firmware Iox v5.8.4, eisy (5226), PG3x 3.2.27, UD Mobile 1.1.86 but NOWHERE can I find a version with a number like OS xx.x in my system. I want to be able to integrate my eisy with HomeKit and the only piece I am missing is something called OS 14.1 that is supposed to be released this month. What is it? Where is it downloaded from? How do I install it? Edited Wednesday at 05:11 PM by coinserv Not finished. Quote
paulbates Posted Wednesday at 05:20 PM Posted Wednesday at 05:20 PM (edited) It's the version of OS that all of the UDI Eisy software runs on, and it doesn't get upgraded frequently. Its usually upgraded around new capabilities to be launched. IMO that's one of advantages of the Eisy vs other server based Home Automation systems is that it's not an owner responsibility to regularly keep it running and the system software upgraded. The eisy is more of an appliance and I came from server based home automation to UDI. I've not had to worry about random reboots or restarting it because it crashed. The reason you don't see instructions is that they haven't been provided yet. What you read was an announcement of what's to come. The other factor is UDI releases things when they deem them ready and not before. Edited Wednesday at 05:32 PM by paulbates Quote
coinserv Posted Wednesday at 05:31 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 05:31 PM How do I view my current OS version? I see no prompt for it in the Iox JavaScript interface nor the UD Mobile app. Quote
Solution paulbates Posted Wednesday at 05:36 PM Solution Posted Wednesday at 05:36 PM (edited) As an appliance that info is not available on the surface of the eisy. I believe you'd need to use an SSH client to log in and use FreeBSD command line to see what it is. Pretty sure everyone but developers would be on the same version as eisy is an appliance, and in general it's not important for us to know unless wanting more capability that someone with developer skills would need. I think I read its 12.something but don't remember and never looked. I'm counting on the UDI team to come out with instructions or a link or something for us to follow sometime this month. paulbates Posted Wednesday at 05:43 PM Posted Wednesday at 05:43 PM Another thing to consider, after reading between the lines, is that upgrading Freed BSD on our own will not bring eisy capabilities like HomeKit. UDI will release comprehensive updates of their software that requires the underlying OS to be upgraded. It will be an integrated package that only they can provide Quote
coinserv Posted Wednesday at 05:44 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 05:44 PM Thanks Paul. I use SSH and Linux all the time, just never with my eisy (or isy994) before. I may look into the developer's section and see what I might be able to contribute. Just what I need, another project to play with! Boy when you are retired you NEVER get a day off! 2 Quote
Eby Creek Posted Thursday at 04:22 PM Posted Thursday at 04:22 PM If you plug a keyboard, mouse and monitor into your EISY it will show you the OS version. You can then log into the system with the start.win command. Then admin/admin for login. Quote
dbwarner5 Posted Thursday at 06:09 PM Posted Thursday at 06:09 PM (edited) @paulbates @coinserv Another easy way to see al your current versions of the imbedded software components is to type this into a browser. https://<local IP address of Eisy>:8443/WEB/sysconfig.txt On the top line, it will tell you the OS system version, and then below all the package components of that system. Guy Lavoie Posted Thursday at 06:40 PM Posted Thursday at 06:40 PM If I log into my eisy with ssh and do the unix command "uname -a", I get: FreeBSD 13.2 release p11 Quote
slimypizza Posted Thursday at 06:45 PM Posted Thursday at 06:45 PM Thanks for the link. Here is what I got when I ran it. *** OS *** FreeBSD eisy 13.2-RELEASE-p11 Quote
Eby Creek Posted Thursday at 06:55 PM Posted Thursday at 06:55 PM *** OS *** FreeBSD eisy 14.1-RELEASE-p6 Quote
dbwarner5 Posted Thursday at 06:59 PM Posted Thursday at 06:59 PM (edited) @slimypizza @Guy Lavoie I am not sure what the latest is. Mine shows 14.1, but I have been working with Michel K on some longer term problem solving, so I know he updated my system at one point to test out some changes. But if @Eby Creek is also on 14.1, then you may want to run Upgrade Packages from the AC (after doing a backup). Edited Thursday at 07:01 PM by dbwarner5 Quote
slimypizza Posted Thursday at 07:25 PM Posted Thursday at 07:25 PM (edited) It was worth a try. I ran Update Packages but stayed on 13.2 RELEASE p11. Edited Thursday at 07:30 PM by slimypizza 1 Quote

Well since 14.1 seems to be part of the promised January upgrade, I'll just wait until it's announced (and let a few early adopters dip their toes first). Maybe UDI will streamline the process too. I'm in no rush. 1 Quote
