Bill K-B Posted March 21 Posted March 21 I am on iox 5.9.1 on my eisy , using Gmail successfully until very recently. I am now getting the generic SMTP_ERRORS--1 message, even when I try an email test. I've regenerated a new Gmail app password twice, with no better result. I can send emails from the Gmail app. Is anyone else have issues, or have any suggestions? Thanks. Please excuse my fat fingering in the title..... Quote
paulbates Posted March 21 Posted March 21 It's been a while since sending things through gmail... but my recollection is that individual relay devices have to be authenticated, one time for this kind of use. Since the eisy is new, that may not have happened https://medium.com/@josewebdev/gmail-email-service-setup-for-code-based-email-sending-8b77d7c0a3c0 Quote
Bill K-B Posted March 21 Author Posted March 21 Thanks for the reply. Email has been working fine on my eisy until recently, and I used it successfully on another mail client, so my configuration and registering should be OK. I wish I could see the source code, so I could find who is generating the error. Qustion: how do you get statuses, alarms, etc. without sending email? Quote
paulbates Posted March 21 Posted March 21 I got the paid for notification plug-in and have it send notifications to the pushover app on my Android phone and iPad. I also have my router and other fw upgrade notices sent there, works well and timely 1 Quote
Bill K-B Posted March 21 Author Posted March 21 The paid one does have nice features. I kind of wanted to have the options for real emails and texts though, so I can save away all notifications historically. I currently use Alexa on my phone for phone-only notifying, but I would like to move away from relying on Amazon. Quote
Geddy Posted March 21 Posted March 21 7 hours ago, Bill K-B said: configuration and registering should be OK Might be worth reviewing the wiki for the setup: https://wiki.universal-devices.com/ISY994:Configure_Mail_Server_Settings#Configuring_gmail_Account It's possible that Gmail changed something again, but this setup seems to still work. I've had a notification program with Gmail account setup since early on and just tested the program and got the notice within seconds. Where are you sending the notification? It might be blocking/delaying delivery? I send from Gmail to Outlook email, but I don't send large amounts of notifications. If you're sending a bunch it could be triggering your messages as spam and bouncing/delaying them. Quote
Bill K-B Posted March 21 Author Posted March 21 I've reviewed the instructions and they are the same as they have been in the past. Emailing has been working, but not anymore. The error is from the mail server, smtp error, not at the receiver. I've tried it with the default setting, with a Gmail account, and with a Yahoo account. Also, since the error is "[SMTP_ERRORS--1]]" , and there is no error -1 listed (it starts with -2), it seems like something has gone wrong. Maybe the last package update broke something. Quote
Solution Geddy Posted March 22 Solution Posted March 22 @Bill K-B what is the timeout set to? Try setting it to 10,000. Also, how is the message you’re trying to send formatted? Is it a very long message? Try setting up a new one with very short body text. Some older posts with this issue seemed to revolve around a timeout issue or very long HTML notifications that were causing errors. Finally, will you open this page in a browser and let us know what ISY version you’re on? (Not just from admin console…from the sysconfig file…looking for the number after 5.9.1…as of today should be _18 for the “current” version) https://eisy.local:8443/WEB/sysconfig.txt (You might need to replace “eisy.local” with the device IP address) Quote
Bill K-B Posted March 22 Author Posted March 22 The test emails were failing. I'll get the version. After several reboots, I finally got Yahoo to send emails, slowly, but not gmail. Seems like something is corrupted/over-written. I'm still poking and prodding. Man, wish I could see the code that generates that non-distinct error message. Well, I'm retired now. No more project team butt kicking. Quote
Bill K-B Posted March 22 Author Posted March 22 The box is at 5.9.1_13 installed on March 10. I will see about a package upgrade. Quote
Bill K-B Posted March 22 Author Posted March 22 Updated to _19. That seemed to do the trick so far. Seems to work smoothly now, with both Yahoo and Gmail. Thanks for the tip to update. 1 Quote
Geddy Posted March 22 Posted March 22 Glad it's sorted out. Odd that it went into an error issue. It could have been a build issue or corrupt update somewhere along the way. When I made my post I had updated earlier yesterday (3/21) and my version was 5.9.1_18. Guess another one got pushed out sometime yesterday if you're up to _19. You mentioned the tests were failing. Do you have multiple recipients setup? If you do I think you have to select one before you run the test or you might get errors on the test process because it doesn't know where to send them. That's mostly from memory though. I only have 1 address and don't trigger the test message often. I prefer to trigger a program that sends a message just to know that process is running correct.
