oberkc Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I have been watching, with interest, the discussion on the newest software and UI. I understand that one must use the portal account credentials to login. Is this suggesting that a portal account is now required to use an EISY? Does this suggest that the newest version of iox requires an Internet connection to work ? Am I correct in my understanding that the old Java interface is still available and, if so, is that the only way to access the EISY locally? Quote
mbking Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago @oberkc, I found this in the eisy-ui wiki: Using eisy without connectivity Although eisy-ui requires your portal username and password, it will work without Internet connectivity. When you log in; If there is connectivity, it will check your credentials against portal. If there is no connectivity, it will authenticate you using a cached copy of your credentials. The cached copy of your your portal password is encrypted using one-way encryption (It's technically a hash of your password). In addition, if there is no connectivity, a few features will be disabled, such as: The PG3x/Plugins store. The PG3x/Plugins purchases page. Plugins themselves will continue to run, unless they need connectivity. I'm adding this based on my own experiences: eisy will continue to run the same as the plug-ins unless a node needs external connectivity. The Java based Admin Console still works, but please note the release notes for eisy-ui; you may need to use your portal credentials to login to the old Admin Console. It's based on some factors I don't totally understand, but since I installed eisy-ui, I have to use my portal credentials to login to the Admin Console. It still works the same. Quote
oberkc Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago (edited) Thanks for the pointers. That gives me some relief. I am still stuck with the perception that a portal account is required, however. If one does not have a portal account, does the system not work? If one has a portal account but later chooses to cancel it, does the system quit working? Edited 3 hours ago by oberkc Quote

If one does not have a portal account, does the system not work? There is a difference between “having a portal account” and “having an active subscription”. I think since the eisy came out it needed a portal account so setup and buy plugins. If does not require a subscription to be active. I expect the eisy-ui to be the same. It is trying to login with portal credentials, but that does not require a subscription. It also does not require internet connection (as pointed out above, from the wiki). Quote
