SMTP with other than Default or gmail

Running rev 2.7.15 and began using the notification. Set to 'default' and it worked fine for a 2 days. Now getting a 50001 error. So, tried using the gmail test and it works fine. Just can not get it to work with my bellsouth.net account no matter what. Tried everything for hours but just no go. Finally gave up and opened a gmail acct. Works but realy would like to know how to set up the bellsouth. I use Outlook and have no problems using bellsouth.net

Has ANYONE got this to work with a Bellsouth.net account?

Thought so, thanks. No. Since my Outlook is working fine, I tried to use the same setting (ie, "mail.bellsouth.net", my acct name "...@bellsouth.net", my PW, port 25 and no TLS) also tried with TLS checked.

Nothing seemed to be working.

I just followed what works in my Outlook setup. It shows in the "advance" part of the setup that the outgoing port is 25 and the incoming port is 110.

I will try 587 just to be sure and let you know.

Thanks for the input. Nothing like that in the log. Only -50001 errors. I am using exactly like what is in the Outlook setup for these email addresses. This is why am confused as to why this does not work when it works fine with Outlook.

Hi bocaray,

When you see the -50001 error there should be a number in column 2 to indicate the SMTP error.

When I tested with my Comcast account I was getting error -10, SMTP_FROM_TIMEOUT. I had to put my User ID in the From field.

You are a GENIUS!!! It works finally.

So here is the method (should anyone else read this thread in desperation):

SMTP Server = mail.bellsouth.net

SMTP Port = 25

User ID = (leave blank)

Password = (use email PW)

From = ***@bellsouth.net (email address)

Timeout (ms) = 1000

Use TLS = (leave unchecked)

Thanks!!!
