matapan Posted Sunday at 03:54 AM Posted Sunday at 03:54 AM I tried adding an Insteon motion sensor model 2420 tonight and couldn't do it. From the Admin Console, I selected Link Management/Link a Sensor/Motion Sensor After accepting the next dialog with the instructions on putting the motion sensor in setup mode, I entered the device address, a device name, and the device type (2420M), then pressed OK. The console didn't do anything other than to return to a waiting state after this. No device created. Status of the controller is Ready. On a separate note, I have noticed that not all the links are created when creating scenes where I have 3 or more devices with a several controller and a responder. The observed behavior of this failure is when the device states are not synced amongst the controlling devices. I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this. Any ideas? Thanks. Quote
Solution paulbates Posted Sunday at 10:56 AM Solution Posted Sunday at 10:56 AM Some questions: How close is the sensor to the PLM when linking? Have you tried linking mode? Go to iox under linking and click start linking. Then put the sensor in linking mode. If the sensor shows up on the list, complete linking How old is you PLM? If you're not sure, there's a white sticker with 4 black digits on it, what are they. The fact that you're having problems linking and the scene problem hints at something going on there Quote

Have you tried a factory reset on the MS first before attempting linking? Quote
matapan Posted yesterday at 02:15 PM Author Posted yesterday at 02:15 PM Thanks for your suggestions. I was not close to the PLM when I attempted to link the motion sensor. I tried linking the motion sensor using both methods, one described in the original post and one where I selected Start Linking and put the sensor into linking mode. The linking process in each case did not appear to initiate and the Admin Console went promptly back to a Ready state. I also tried factory resetting the motion sensor and tried to link the device. I looked at the communication events while attempting to link manually. It appears that the motion sensor was already added previously. Is this the expected behavior? 1 Quote
Techman Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago If the sensor is already linked, then yes, you can't add it again unless you first uninstall it. Being that you did a factory reset on the sensor you now need to right click on the sensor in your device tree and then click on restore device. 1 Quote
