Setting up IR into my new ISY99i/IR

This does seem like a dumb question but how do I get IR signals physically into my new ISY99i/IR? Am not finding anything in the quick start guide, user guide, wiki or forum about it. I already have IR receivers and emitters throughout the house. Can I plug into the ISY electrically (my ISY is right next to a 4 port IR expander with a free port) or via one of my IR emitters?

I don't have emitters/receivers - I just have a Harmony remote - but I think you'd just want to plop an emitter right in front of the ISY and have it shoot signals at it. I point my Harmony at it and it just receives standard IR codes that the remote sends out. Then I just tell the ISY what to do when it receives a particular code.

Is it the bigger of the 2 holes below the LED's on the ISY that has the receiver behind it? The emitters I have need to be glued (well, two-sided taped) to sit right on top of the receiver.

Yes, the bigger of the two holes is the IR receiver.

yes, I found that one and many others, however it and the others I found only cover how to configure/use IR within the ISY software. I also found the one on configuring the Harmony Remote in the Harmony software. I found nothing about the hardware side of things. In fact I thought I might have to buy an IR Linc Receiver but then again there was nothing about that when I bought the ISY so that didn't seem right.

I must have misunderstood your initial post of not being able to find anything on the wiki.

You can get an IRLinc reciever, but this is unnecessary if your ISY is within line-of-site of your transmitter, or you are using one of those IR emitters from your block.

My understanding is the the ISY has a library of codes, or you can teach the ISY to use a code if it is not part of the existing library. The link I put on the earlier post includes a section:

"Teaching IR Codes To the ISY-99.9i (in place of or in addition to the 40 default IR codes)"

I found this to be reasonably clear, when done in front of the ISY admin control panel. Is this not what you are looking for?

As far as hardware issues, I don't understand the problem....Point the remote at the ISY. I am failing to understand the hardware confusion.

oberkc - I think (could be wrong) his biggest problem was knowing if there was an IR receiver in his ISY and if so, where it was. I don't know that there is anywhere that specifically says "The IR receive resides in the bigger hole on the front of the ISY." I figured it out on mine by trial and error. I think he's good now.

OK. So there was a problem, and it is now solved.

I thought the problem still existed. Thanks.

yep, I'm good now. Thanks, wpmjones.

if UDI is listening in, might be worth labeling the IR receiver on the ISY. If not on the device itself then in the quick start guide.
