Does the ISY-99i Pro have a time out for how long you can be logged in for a session?

 

Also, can there be multiple users logged in at once from different locations?

 

I do realize that there is only ONE login, with one user name. But, wanted to know if for instance I forgot to log off on the home PC.

 

Then, later on realizing I had to make some adjustments to the Insteon network that I could indeed log in, all the while the home PC was concurrently logged in too?

 

Lastly, could someone please clarify the intent of the UDI web interface to remote into the ISY system. As I logged into my own system but it appears this was simply a dummy interface with no live control?

No. ISY logs you out in case it cannot communicate with you

Yes

You can have up to 10 concurrent sessions (such as Admin Console, MobiLinc, Conductor, etc.) without worrying about anything

Which web interface are we talking about? The simple HTML one?

There is a link some where on the UDI forum which allows a user to access their ISY via your web server.

 

Upon logging into the service I was prompted to enter my user name and password.

 

After a successful log in my Insteon system was indeed displayed. But, after a few moments of inspection it appears this console was not actually live but was a rendering of my system which did not allow me any sort of control etc.

 

I decided to log in from a remote location to verify that I am indeed able to log into the ISY remotely taking out my local network as a possible problem area.

 

I was indeed able to do so, and all aspects of changes and updates could be performed as if I was at home login locally within my network.

 

Is there something I am doing wrong? Or is this service via your web server simply a viewing portal and not intended to control the ISY system?

Hi Teken,

 

The Admin Console served from the portal (/99i/version/admin.jnlp) is an application. They are identical to the Admin Console served from ISY. The only difference is that:

1. It tries to find your ISY on the network if you are local

2. It allows you to enter the IP address of all remote ISYs so you can get to them by just clicking on their entry (i.e at your office)

3. You do not have to download the application from ISY all the time. This is quite useful especially if you are on a low bandwidth connection and remote

4. In case, your unit crashes (therefore no more application on the SD Card), then this is the only way you can get to your ISY and restore it

 

In short, this is done mostly for performance reasons when you are remote. Otherwise, it's the same exact code as served by ISY.
