Intermittent device status

So far I only have an Appliance Module on my network and I am having troubles with the current State not showing up consistently. What can I do to have the current state show up consistently? Thank-you

mjtyson

Do you have a pair of Access Points (or other Dual Band devices) installed to couple the two 120V legs. You could have a problem with Insteon signals passing from one 120V leg to the other.

Another problem could be the device connected to the ApplianceLinc is causing the ApplianceLinc to turn On and Off based on the load sensing capability of the ApplianceLinc. If this is the case the ApplianceLinc does not have Controller capability. It does NOT have the ability to notify some other device (such as the ISY PLM) that is has been turned On or Off due to load sensing.

If neither of the above applies please expand on circumstances.

Thanks

I am using a 2413s and a 2443 to couple the two legs and I have verified that they are on different phases by pushing the set button on the 2413 four times and getting a flashing green light on the 2443.

The load in question is a single bulb halogen desk lamp I am using for test purposes.

What controller button or technique are you using to turn the light on or off when it gets out of sync?

How are you turning on or off the light when it gets out of sync?

I do not believe it is an issue of how I am turning it on/off as I am doing it via the admin console. I have also confirmed that the laptop I am using (running OSX 10.6) has the firewall disabled.

The most important detail I believe is that when I log in to the admin console the status is either there and works perfectly or it is not there and nothing I have tried has made a difference including: resetting the PLM. rebooting the ISY, clearing the browser cache, clearing the Java cache, changing the Java order to 32 bit first, using firefox instead of safari, and turning off/unplugging potential interference sources. If I do not get this resolved then ISY is a non starter for me as one of my main reasons for going this route is for reliable remote monitoring - so far I have been unable to get consistent local monitoring.

Thanks for your excellent help.

Hello mjtyson,

What you are experiencing has nothing to do with the ISY/INSTEON side of things and a lot to do with ISY/Computer side of things. As such, please do not factory reset as it's not going to solve the problem.

This is how ISY works:

1. The Admin Console subscribes to ISY

2. ISY publishes all events back to the Admin Console

3. In case ISY cannot communicate with the Admin Console, then it expires the session and you will see -5011 and -5012 in the log/error log

Please note that on MAC, clearing Java cache sometimes requires reboot of your computer.

Please do the following and report back:

1. I know you have cleared your Java cache, but please do so one more time: http://www.universal-devices.com/mwiki/ ... Java_Cache

2. Reboot your MAC

3. Try the following URL: http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/admin.jnlp

Looking forward to hearing back from you soon.

With kind regards,

Michel

Thanks for your quick reply - however I followed your instructions explicitly and I am unable to determine the status of the one device I have connected to the network - the device will respond to the on/off commands in the console as well in a program.

I am not certain that this is important but just in case I should note that I was having earlier problems which I resolved on my own.

The first time I attempted to log in to the Admin console the password window failed to initialize. I verified that I had the latest Java files (both 32 & 64) and cleared the Java cache. Even after that it still took as many as three times for the Admin Console to come up fully operational - this is the first indication of "poor communication" between the computer and ISY. I also upgraded to the latest firmware (2.8.7).

For a while I was receiving the "Discovering Nodes Retry" error - I checked to see the PLM status in diagnostics to find that 2413s was not connected. I tried a couple times to reset the PLM to factory but that did not help. The problem did not get resolved until I rebooted the ISY. Even after this when I started the Start Linking Devices to get my Appliance Link back onto the device tree the Admin was unresponsive. The only way I was able to add the device after removing it was to manually add it via "add insteon device". The device has worked properly since then - but only occasionally has a reported status in the AC.

Hope this helps

Thank-you Michel for your help in resolving this problem. You and UD definitely set the bar high when it come to customer support.

This issue was resolved by Michel via a remote desktop session. It is my understanding that it was an expired Java certificate. Hopefully this is not the same as a ID 10 T error  If the "expired Java certificate" is wrong I hope Michel will jump in and set the record straight.

mjtyson,

That's precisely what it was!!!! Release 2.7.15's Java certificate has expired and, for some reason, there were two certificates in the same store. Normally, this should not cause any problems but, then again, we are talking about MAC here!!!

All releases after 2.8.0 have the new certificate which should last us for another 3 years.

With kind regards,

Michel

I'm having the exact problem on my MAC, and I've tried clearing the cache per this forum. Is there an easy way for me to resolve this without a phone call? Every "Current State" is missing. :(

Hello MatthewInOK,

Apologies ... yes, for sure.

The first thig is to go to Java Properties, under Security, remove all certificates belonging to Universal Devices. Once you are done with that, clear your Java cache, and finally:

1. Either install 2.8.8 OR

2. Use the following URL to access your ISY:

http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/2.7.8/admin.jnlp

With kind regards,

Michel

Thanks Michel!

I followed the instructions, installed 2.8.8 and it informs me an update is available, takes a little and then the app launches. I have a "house" icon on the desktop now but 2476S SwitchLinc Relay v 3A shows as unrecognized and Device Busy is in the lower right where it usually shows Ready. Also I have a spinning blue ball only within the app. I am able to select devices and even control the unrecognized switchlink.

Thoughts..?
