Pioneer Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 I bought the Dakota driveway interface (to tell when a car enters your driveway) as well as the Insteon Dakota interface... The problem I am having is how to connect it to the ISY to send ISY a signal? It seems I have to link the Dakota device to an Insteon device... I tried listening for Insteon devices and sending the signal from Dakota but no luck. Any tips? --- Secondly, I am thinking of getting a Cortexa touchscreen which is suppose to be Insteon compatible... will it work with the ISY Device? -John
Michel Kohanim Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Pioneer, Please see my comments below. Thanks and with kind regards, Michel I bought the Dakota driveway interface (to tell when a car enters your driveway) as well as the Insteon Dakota interface... The problem I am having is how to connect it to the ISY to send ISY a signal? It seems I have to link the Dakota device to an Insteon device... I tried listening for Insteon devices and sending the signal from Dakota but no luck. Any tips? Unfortunately, at the moment we do not support Dakota. We were promised an EZSnsRF by the beginning of next week which, if received, we shall start working on. This said, however, I shall take it upon myself to do more digging to see if there are any workarounds to sensing Dakota Insteon group commands. --- Secondly, I am thinking of getting a Cortexa touchscreen which is suppose to be Insteon compatible... will it work with the ISY Device? -John Cortexa touchscreen requires Cortexa controller (sold separately). Unfortunately, we don't support Cortexa but we are investigating a few options to support touchscreens as they add livelihood to the whole Insteon installation.
Pioneer Posted July 10, 2007 Author Posted July 10, 2007 Regarding Cortexa -- that will be an issue for me... will there be a workaround of some sort... or is it at least feasible for your unit to interface with cortexa in the future? (IE: is it a hardware issue or just software implementation) re: Dakota -- i have been looking into other dakota items, i would love to see support for this... have the driveway unit and want to turn on lights etc. If I link it to a switch or light somewhere, could the ISY potentially pick that signal up?
Michel Kohanim Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Pioneer, Do you plan on getting a Cortexa controller as well? We have not had any plans yet but let me call Rod and see what we can do. We'll get the Dakota and EZSnsRF working soon. Possilby after our X10 release which could potentially help you with a lot less money (X10 motion detectors are $20 to $50). With kind regards, Michel Regarding Cortexa -- that will be an issue for me... will there be a workaround of some sort... or is it at least feasible for your unit to interface with cortexa in the future? Pioneer Posted July 10, 2007 Author Posted July 10, 2007 It is my understanding the cortexa controller is required for the touchscreens? Friend is also interested in similar setup and I have been telling him about your product. Re: Dakota -- i could do X10 for motion but I dont think there are many options for driveway sensors... plus I think Dakota has a huge range, like 3000 feet? Thanks! -John
Michel Kohanim Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 John, Yes, Cortexa controller is required for Cortexa touch panel; they still haven't returned my query vis-a-vis integration with their system. We shall work on Dakota With regards, Michel It is my understanding the cortexa controller is required for the touchscreens? Pioneer Posted July 11, 2007 Author Posted July 11, 2007 Re: Dakota -- i did call Insteon and basically the Dakota-Insteon device is currently (by itself) not very useful... basically you can only link to a switch somewhere from the device (like a driveway sensor) so this would be great if the ISY would work with it. Can you confirm at least that it is just a software issue right now and not a hardware (insteon/Dakota box) that would allow the ISY to receive these signals? Reason I ask is that I would want to return the insteon/dakota device if it wont ever be able to do something useful like trigger groups etc. -John
Michel Kohanim Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 John, From what I understand, Dakota Insteon device is like any other Insteon device so that when ISY can link to it then you can do everything else just like any other Insteon device; i.e. put it in a scene with an i/o device, or a switch, or be able to trigger things off of it. Jon_W Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Hi Michel, What is the latest on the Dakota RF module... Has it made it to yoru plan of record yet? I also use the Dakota Driveway alert and can see all kinds of usful stuff to do with it, once the ISY can see it. Jon
Michel Kohanim Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Hello Jon, Are you referring to SimpleHomeNet's EZSnSRF? If so, given our current schedules - and UDI's track record with SHN - it would be quite difficult for us to support it since we need quick support and full protocol/API specification from SHN which is a little difficult. With with kind regards, Michel Hi Michel, What is the latest on the Dakota RF module... Has it made it to yoru plan of record yet? aLf Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 I too have a Dakota Alarm. My idea is simple with this. Why not use an http://www.smarthome.com/31274.html hooked to the outputs of the driveway alarm box in your house. There are several outputs on the Dakota which could be connected to the http://www.smarthome.com/31274.html, then just program ISY to trigger from there?
Jon_W Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Hi Alf, I agree and in fact I already pruchased an EZIO 2x4 beforee I learned about the EZIORF device. Unfortunatly, even the EZIO2x4 has limit funtionality with the ISY. Ful support for both of those devices by the ISY would be ideal, but it sounds like SimpleHomeNet is not easy to work with. Jon
Michel Kohanim Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Jon_W, We do support EZIO2x4. We do support EZIO8SA but we do not EZIO8ST. The only issue with EZIO2x4 is the manner in which you should link it with ISY: you have to follow SHN's instructions to the dot (4 seconds, then ISY, then another 4 seconds). Please do let us know if this does not work for you. With kind regards, Michel Hi Alf, I agree and in fact I already pruchased an EZIO 2x4 beforee I learned about the EZIORF device.
