reakhavok Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Im running ISY 2.8.8. I've noticed that the latest devices that I've installed are showing up in the ISY has having V00. I've added motion sensors, triggerlincs, togglelincs and switchlincs. Do I need to add these in some special way for the ISY to read the versions correctly? Is this normal? ive searched the forum, and saw a couple posts were people stated the version showed V00 but no one mentions it as a problem..... Thanks
LeeG Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I have found that adding a device with New INSTEON Device and selecting a specific Device Type pulldown entry results in a v00. Looks like that path does not attempt to retrieve the device firmware level. I have not had any issues because of this. If there is some firmware level specific function in the ISY it could be. Try using the Auto Discover option. I get firmware levels when adding a device this way. The Motion Sensor must be added through the New INSTEON Device method selecting the Motion Sensor device type so there is no alternative for a MS. EDIT: 2.8.10 is a better place to be
reakhavok Posted January 20, 2011 Author Posted January 20, 2011 EDIT: 2.8.10 is a better place to be I'm about to upgrade!! just been lazy. and thanks for the info im going to go back and redo my V00 devices!
Walrus Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I have found that adding a device with New INSTEON Device and selecting a specific Device Type pulldown entry results in a v00. Looks like that path does not attempt to retrieve the device firmware level. I have not had any issues because of this. I recently added 2 switchlinc relays 2476S this way, and they showed up as v.00. Because of this, not all functions of the switch were available. I couldn't make them beep, or control the LED brightness. I deleted the devices and re-added through 'start linking' and the functions became available. Thus.. only manually add devices if you absolutely have to, like motion sensors.
Michel Kohanim Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Walrus, Please either use Link Management | Start Linking OR use the Auto Discover from the drop down list in Add New INSTEON device. With kind regards, Michel
Walrus Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Thanks, but I realize that. I was letting LeeG know that there are in fact issues with adding devices manually and selecting a specific device type from the pulldown.
ELA Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Hi, I have gotten so used to working with motion sensors and adding them manually that I did the same when adding a replacement Switchlinc dimmer. It now shows as a v.00. Can this have a negative affect on its ability to work in a scene? I wanted to replace an existing switchlinc with a new one. Now that I have done that it no longer works with the scenes it was associated with previously. I have manually adjusted its scene levels and Ramp rates via the ISY99 to attempt to fix but it continues to fail to respond when the scene is operated. Now I am wondering if it is the ver 0.0? If so will can I restore it using the autodetect somehow?
Sub-Routine Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Hi ELA, If you used the Replace With ... function the switch should work correctly. Are there any green 11010 arrows pointing to any devices? The only way to change the version is to remove and re-add the switch. Do you have a backup from before you called the Replace function? If the new switch has new features (Beep) then you will not have access to those features while at v.00. Everything else should work (unless it is a v.35). ELA Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Thanks for your response sub-routine, No green arrows (all updates were done). I would not care if all I missed was features such as beep. I also posted in the Smarhome Channel - adding to an old post of mine. The problem is that this new switch is having issues with Scenes now. From the event view I posted over there it looks like it is sending an "OFF" command where it should be sending an "ON"?
Brian H Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Didn't you replace an Icon with a Switchlinc that has more features? I thought the interface would only replace a device with a same type device. Rand will know better but normally would an Icon be replaced by a Switchlinc through the ISY screen?
Sub-Routine Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Hi guys, Devices to be replaced have to be comparable or they will not be displayed on the drop-down. Controller/Responder, Dimmer/Switch, etc. Brian, SwitchLincs are comparable to the Icons, but ramp rates cannot be guaranteed to work on Icons; we have seen too many variations. ELA, Running the Scene Test sends an Off to the scene. If you send an On or hold the Brighten button do the lights all turn on? Fast On/Off? Rand
Brian H Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Rand; Thanks for the quick response. I maybe doing this shortly myself.
ELA Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Thank you both for your responses. I read the manual yesterday right after I posted and now understand that scene test only sends off. NONE of the scenes that I replaced the switchlinc dimmer into worked. None of the lights in the scenes turned on. (When activating each scene "on" from within the ISY.) That particular switch was in 4 different scenes and none of them worked (activated via the ISY). Yet the scene test reported a positive result! Apparently the "replace with" did not work very well I removed the new switchlinc from one scene and manually relinked it from within the ISY and that scene then worked fine. I then removed the switch all together and used auto detect to reinstall. Now I had a v3.8 for the switch. I then manually relinked this to all the scenes one at a time. Now they all work fine. I am not very happy with Insteon at this point. Lots of pretty iffy stuff going on here. I am sure some of it can be put down to my being a roukie but this system is definitely not for anyone not will to spend a lot of time once issues rear their head.
