jaycanter Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I have been trying to find out why once a week i have 1 failure on my scheduled runs. i have been watching the log everyday for my sunset & sunrise times. today i got a couple of x10 lines in there that i have never seen before and i don't have any x10. any ideas where it might have come from? also have some entries i don't know what they are it shows as Tue 01/25/2011 05:25:08 PM : (INST-ACK ) 02 62 00.00.17 CF 13 00 06 Does anybody know what this is cause i don't have any devices those #s I have been printing the logs and going thru them and have found that when the isy tries to contact the brultech ecm there is a pause up to 5 seconds before it gets it's response and if a motion sensor triggers in that time period the isy doesn't register the ms command. just for your info if your having ms problems intermitinly with a ecm.
Michel Kohanim Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Hello jcanter, INST-ACK means that someone issues a scene command to ISY and this the ACK from the PLM that the command was received and executed. The ECM issue is a new one! Does it interfere with all your RF devices or only the MS? With kind regards, Michel
jaycanter Posted January 26, 2011 Author Posted January 26, 2011 but what are the digits after that they don't match any addresses i have.and the only rf devices i have are the ms and access points so i don't know if it affects anything else Jay
Michel Kohanim Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Hi jcanter, They are group address (scene) 00 00 nn where nn is the INSTEON group number. With kind regards, Michel
jaycanter Posted January 26, 2011 Author Posted January 26, 2011 so i shouldn't worry about those when i am tracing the event viewer?
LeeG Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Jcanter As Michel has already indicated that is a Scene (Group) Off for Scene (Group) 0x17 decimal 23. The 00 00 17 is the Scene (Group) number. You can issue the following command in a browser and get a list of the Scenes in the ISY. Look for an entry with a 23. The devices listed below it will be the devices in the Scene. If MS messages are being block during this Scene for 5 seconds it normally indicates one or more of the responders is not responding to the Scene (Group) Off. It takes a few seconds for the Controller to retry the Off command multiple times to a non responding device. A Scene normally completes very quickly. http://192.168.2.2/rest/nodes/scenes Example of a Scene displayed by the above Rest command 16833 SceneKPL3Ramp30 59 K07 - 14 71 3C 1 B 4A AD 4 I issued the following Rest command http://192.168.2.2/rest/nodes/16833/cmd/DOF which turns Off the above Scene SceneKPL3Ramp30. This Scene has a deviceGroup 59 hex 0x3B which produced the following Event entry Wed 01/26/2011 02:14:10 PM : [iNST-ACK ] 02 62 00.00.3B CF 13 00 06 LTOFFRR(00) By knowing the Scene you should be able to determine what is turning the Scene Off. Scene On/Off activity is normal. Just depends on whether that Scene should be turning Off at that point. Lee
jaycanter Posted January 26, 2011 Author Posted January 26, 2011 thanks i am trying to understand this at a deeper level cause once a week i have 1 set out of three sets of blinds fail to open or close and can't find out why. the ms problem is with the brultech communication when the isy tries to read the brultech it takes several seconds for the response and any ms during that time does not go thru to the isy. i use to have it sent every 5 mins playing with it and have since changed it to 30 mins and the motions became more reliable.
Michel Kohanim Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 jcanter, If the problems are scene related, I strongly recommend doing a scene test on your scenes. The MS/Brultech issue is quite a mystery and it does not make sense UNLESS the Zigbee communications are impacting/interfering with INSTEON which is also quite doubtful. With kind regards, Michel
jaycanter Posted January 26, 2011 Author Posted January 26, 2011 Sorry i am not real good at explaing problems the blinds are not part of any scenes i just have them as a program. and the brultech isn't wirless the are wired to my router
Michel Kohanim Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Hello jcanter, Don't you have ECM1240 where the box that is next to the breaker panel communicates with EP-1 which is connected to your router? If that's the case, then they are communicating via Zigbee. I am not sure how Zigbee could interfere with INSTEON RF ... this is the first time I am hearing it. With kind regards, Michel
bpwwer Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 If you are seeing a pause of 5 seconds between when the ISY starts to query the ECM-1240 and when it gets a response from the ECM-1240, that seems excessive. I'm able to query my ECM-1240 every 2 seconds without a problem. I don't have any MS and my ECM-1240 is hardwired to the EP-1 but even so the EP-1 should respond almost instantly when it's queried for data. Michel, Is it possible that the ISY is blocked while a TCP connection is trying to be established and that the serial buffer for the PCM connection overflows, losing any messages that were sent at that time?
jaycanter Posted January 27, 2011 Author Posted January 27, 2011 i have a EP-1 EtherPort Ethernet to RS-232 Gateway thats hardwired to the router. am also running the brultech software engine g that forwards my data to google power meter, and saving the usage to a database on my computer

Michel Kohanim Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Hi Bob, ISY blocks on making connections but this means that all other tasks start running while the TCP task is blocked. So, there's absolutely no way that the serial buffer (4K) would overflow. With kind regards, Michel
