Hello all,

I do apologize for all these releases ... we just want to make sure that we have nailed down all serious bugs. There was an extremely rare case of race condition in the presence of incessant DSCLinc activity which triggered programs that tried to communicate with devices that had communications problems (adjusting scenes). Hopefully this is the last release before our official release.

Things to test:

Please use any REST device (including DSCLinc) and bombard ISY with requests of varying types and specifically those that call Programs.

For a list of changes, please take a look at this post:

http://forum.universal-devices.com/view ... =6475#6475

Notes:

1. ISY-26 is no longer included in the firmware builds

2. Due to the sensitive nature of supporting MorningLinc, users now must agree to terms and conditions upon Admin Console start up otherwise the dialog keeps popping up every time the Admin Console is started

Instructions:

1. Please backup your ISY (File | Backup ISY)

2. Please download the firmware for your platform - please do not unzip

ISY 99i Series: http://www.universal-devices.com/update ... 2.8.15.zip

3. Important

Due to invalid Java certificate chain in releases 2.8.5 and above, please make sure to remove all Universal Devices certificates from Java:

a. Close all browser sessions

b. Open Java Control Panel (Java Preferences on MAC)

c. Click on the Security tab. Remove all Universal Devices certificates (on MAC, click on the '-' button at the bottom)

e. Clear your Java Cache ( http://www.universal-devices.com/mwiki/ ... Java_Cache

)

f. Go to http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/2.8.15/admin.jnlp

4. Login to the Admin Console and choose Help | Manually Upgrade [the name of your system]

5. Choose the file saved in step 2

MAC users: if upgrade fails, please add https://your.isy.ip.address to ISY Finder (see 3f above)

6. After the upgrade, ISY reboots. Please do ensure to clear your Java Cache:

http://www.universal-devices.com/mwiki/ ... Java_Cache

7. IMPORTANT Once upgrade is completed and ISY reboots, use any of the following methods to access your ISY's Admin Console:

a. http://isy/admin - applet (Windows only)

b. http://isy/admin.jnlp - Java application (Windows only)

c. http://your.isy.ip.address/admin - applet

d. http://your.isy.ip.address/admin.jnlp - Java application

e. http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/2.8.15 - applet

f. http://www.universal-devices.com/99i/2.8.15/admin.jnlp - Java application

8. IMPORTANT If you have already installed a self signed certificate and your current firmware is 2.7.10 and below, you must reinstall a new one:

Thanks and with kind regards,

Michel

I just upgraded from 2.8.14 and lost internet access. when i click on enable internet access it says failed enabling internet access. I can see it on my network and access it no problems ip is the same it was before the upgrade.

Upgraded and all appears fine . . . Will be doing more tests in the next few days to confirm full operational stability.

BTW: I personally don't mind all the updates. This just re-affirms my belief and loyalty to your product and those who support the ISY.

All of you should be so proud to know you're helping millions of people around North America to make their lives easier, safer, and convenient.

All the while supporting a greener environment to sustain the world.

Much thanks as always . . . :D

I agree. More updates shows the developer is supporting their product. I am very pleased on response time.

When I first got my ISY, I called Tech Support with some issues. A nice guy named Rand called me back. We worked on the issue and he even called me over the weekend to make sure I was happy with my device.

Is it safe to update from remote?

I am on vacation and my ISY is on 2.8.14 and running fine. I am worried if I update it that something may go wrong and I am not there to fix it.

So should I just wait a week until I am home?

As per previous message I am still on 2.8.14. i backed up the other night and got an error message. I just backed up twice again and got the same message. Any idea what this means....

Socket Open Failed java.net.ssl.SSLException: server 'finished' message doesn't verify

This started with 2.8.14 but something else could have happened to cause it so not 100% sure its a bug.

Guys,

While every update seems to go well, I always have to re-establish links to any motion detector and my thermostat. They stop communicating after any update. Just thought you would want to know. It's a pain to relink every time.

Hi bocaray,

Next time would you try a hard reset of the ISY? Use your reset apparatus to press the button for a second.

ISY-99i/ISY-26_INSTEON:Restarting_Your_ISY-99i

I think the reboot isn't completing.

jcanter:

1. Do you use File | Enable Internet Access to enable remote access or do you have manual port forwarding rules?

2. The auto update status has nothing to do with ISY. In the Admin Console, there's a little piece of code that checks to see if you need to upgrade to the next official release. I suspect your computer has not internet connectivity ... or it could have been a glitch in our server (but I cannot reproduce now)

bocaray:

This does not make sense at all since the configuration files do not change when you upgrade. Would you please simply reboot your ISY and see if you experience the same issue? And, if you do, instead of linking everything again, please simply unplug the PLM, wait a minute, then plug it back in. Let me know if that works please.

Jeff:

I do not recommend upgrading remotely. The SSL issue you are experiencing is probably due to a bad SSL certificate. Did you install one for your ISY?

With kind regards,

Michel

Will do! Next update I will do the "Hard Reset" and record the results.

BTW: Now that the motion sensors had to be re-linked, is there any method to clear the "Writing" icon other than having to press the setup button on the motion senors again? My motion sensors are not easy to get to, as they shouldn't be.

Thanks

Also guys,

1) I noticed that if you create a New Program and save it, its icon on the left will show it as Not Enabled eventhough the 'Enabled' box was checked. The fix is easy, just uncheck, check again and save and it goes away. Very minor issue, but thought you would want to know.

2) Is there any way to trigger a notification if any device fails communication or goes into an 'unknown' state (e.g. Not on or Not off)?

Thanks

i use the File | Enable Internet Access to enable remote access and my time server has a exclamation point. so i enabled it and the exclamation point didn't go away so i rechecked and it was internet access was disabled. everytime i enabled and went back and looked it was disabled. i was using my laptop online reaserching new phones when the auto update popup happened. now today internet access shows enabled.

Per your suggestion on a bad SSL certificate causing my errors I did the following. Maybe this will help figure it out. I am away on vacation but I think this actually helped the tests.

1. From away did another https backup- same error

2. From away did a http backup- no error

3. Remote screen shared into our OS X Server. Opened the java app and did both a Http and a https backup with no errors (from internal network).

4. Created a new self signed 1024 SSL certificate and installed. ISY rebooted.

5. Requested a 1024 SSL certificate from the CA but I guess I have to wait for that.

6. Deleted all JAVA cache and certificates and updated firmware to 2.8.15 (also via remote desktop on internal network). Because I had a mac I have to do this via https. I did another backup as part of the process and both the backup and the upgrade worked.

7. Deleted all Java Cache and certificates again using the new JAVA app.

8. Ran another http and https backup from internal network and it worked/

9. Ran a http backup from external IP and it worked.

10. Ran a https backup from external ip and got an error. Different one this time

Hello all,

jcanter, thanks so very much for going through the process. If possible, would you please try changing your https port to something else. I think the problem is that your router is somehow interfering with port 443.

Enable Internet Access requires the router to respond to UPnP requests. This is not a very reliable method since, some routers do not actually do it properly and thus you will be left with Internet Access disabled. Whenever you reboot ISY, ISY tries to figure out whether or not there are any port forwarding rules for it in the router, removes them, and then recreates them. I suspect when ISY reboots, it has a hard time configuring your router.

bocaray:

1. Please do not do hard reset. Please unplug your PLM, wait a second, and plug it back in ... I want to isolate the problem and I think it's PLM related

2. The enabled checkbox is a known bug

3. Unfortunately you cannot run programs based on communications errors ... the major problem with that is that it's going to get into infinite loop

With kind regards,

Michel

Was this meant for me since I was having the SSL errors during backup?

Anyways we use OS X Server and it is on 443 so I cant use port 443 since it is already in use. Instead I am using 8043 which is mapped through. It works correctly for everything but backup. Even the iphone apps connect via SSL fine.

Hello Jeff,

Yes, sincere apologies ... that was for you.

Backup requires higher bandwidth and more encryptions per cycle. If you do not mind, would you please change your userid/password to admin/admin, send your remote URL to tech@universal-devices.com ... I would like to make sure we can do the backup remotely.

With kind regards,

Michel,

I think you are on the right track. As I said I am out of town and have been unable to do the SSL backup since I got here. We are staying with a bunch of family in a house. Everyone left today and I was the only one here. So I did a SSL backup and it worked. So should we go ahead and test or should we assume the issue was slow internet to begin with was way too slow with 10 other devices on at the samr time.

Michel,

I will NOT do a hard reset at the next update but instead WILL unplug the PLM, wait a few minutes, and plug it back in. Will let you know how it goes!

Thanks
