Posted January 4, 200817 yr Hi, Trying to understand how AutoUpdate works. I have an AutoUpdate userid and password. Do I have to log in to my ISY unit with the AutoUpdate user id and password instead of the admin password in order to 'turn on' the AutoUpdate functionality? Note that when I currently try to log in to my ISY software using the AutoUpdate id and password, it does not recognize them. Or, is the AutoUpdate functionality always enabled and I only need the user id and password when I receive a notification message in the software and then click Yes to upgrade? If I don't have the Internet functionality enabled in the ISY software, how does the ISY unit know when there is an update available? Note that I'll update the Wiki with my learnings. Thanks.
January 4, 200817 yr This is the correct answer, except for I think the AutoUpdate username and password are embedded into the ISY code so all you would be doing is logging into your ISY, then OKing the upgrade. Or, is the AutoUpdate functionality always enabled and I only need the user id and password when I receive a notification message in the software and then click Yes to upgrade? It does not know, you would have to check the forum or manual download page from time to time. If I don't have the Internet functionality enabled in the ISY software, how does the ISY unit know when there is an update available?
January 4, 200817 yr Is this different with the 99i? I got an e-mail thanking me for my registration, but with no mention to auto-update at all.
January 4, 200817 yr I don't know because there has not been a new version of the firmware yet that autoupdate works with. It was turned on in 2.6 and we are still at 2.6 firmware. Which means older versions of the firmware will not work either.
January 4, 200817 yr Hello Michel: I'd actually like a way to turn off the Autoupdate in the ISY GUI. When 2.6 became available, every time that I logged in to the ISY, I got a message to the effect that the update was available, and was prompted to upgrade; I had to cancel that every login prior to continuing. Although this was a mild annoyance, it got me thinking that if one of my family ever had to login to the ISY and I hadn't applied the most recent update, they might see the message and inadvertently accept the update, even if I didn't want it. Sometimes I take the viewpoint that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" when it comes to firmware and software for any device. I'd rather apply updates when I am certain that I really want them. So if there was a way to de-select the notification (as many programs and applications have), that would be great. Best wishes,
January 4, 200817 yr Hi All, AutoUpdate no longer requires userid/password so you can discard it (nstein, that's why you didn't get the userid/password for 99i). Frank, point well taken ... this shall be implemented as you suggest. With kind regards, Michel
