100% ISY Status update failue!!!. Otherwise comms are fine.

Recommended Posts

Last night at about 8p my ISY stopped getting status updates for any Insteon devices. Nothing I do has helped the issue. I have never experienced this and am looking for input.

Symptoms:

ISY can control any device.

ISY can query and get correct response from any device.

ISY receives device updates for no devices or actions outside itself.

No Insteon changes or commands not issued by the ISY are seen by the ISY.

No RX LED flash on the ISY upon any non ISY initiated communications. *

RX LED on ISY flashes as expected after a query of a device

No event viewer activity for any non ISY initiated communications*

Link table of the PLM looks right with about 550 links. Lots of A2 and E2 links.

* If activity is initiated from the ISY, like a device query, device action (on or off), or scene action everything appears as expected, both in the real world and the event viewer.

Is my PLM blown? Seems odd that everything is fine except inbound Insteon activity.

I have rebooted both the ISY and PLM repeatedly with no change. I have not yet factory reset and restored the PLM. I am guessing that is next, but wanted advice.

Illusion

The inbound traffic is dependent on the link database in the PLM (and the device of course). Since all devices are involved it does indicate a PLM problem.

Are there any PLM link records that do not have an A2 or E2 first byte. If an entry has become corrupted such the the high water mark bit is not on the PLM will not search past that point when searching for matching link records. The ISY is looking for a 00 end of list entry so the ISY display may be showing link records the PLM will not search.

Another test would be to initiate a few Scenes through the Admin Console and see if they work. These are dependent on the PLM link records as well. If Scenes do not work it would be another indication of PLM link database corruption.

Might try unplugging the PLM for say 60 seconds and see if that resolves the problem. If not then I think the PLM restore is the next step.

Nothing appeared wrong with the link table of the PLM. I factory reset the PLM and used the ISY 'Restore PLM' function to rebuild it. All working again. I will report back here if it happens again indicating a failing PLM vs a one off anomaly.

Thanks
