elvisimprsntr Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 BACKGROUND Not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but here it goes.... I have a home with multiple floors, but only the first floor entry points have alarm keypads. I could install additional alarm keypads but that would require new cable runs to my Elk and probably the keypad expansion module. I could install a keypadlinc and write programs to arm and disarm the alarm using the buttons, but this defeats the need to enter a security code. I now have the Elk module installed on my ISY which gives us access to more Elk features. QUESTION Does SH make an Insteon 12 button security keypad that could be connected up to the ISY to accept security codes to arm and disarm the Elk alarm? http://www.sparkfun.com/products/8653 Elvis
apostolakisl Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 No 12 button switches that I know of. You can still use an 8 button switch. There is a program in the wiki that will show you how to create a "code" for using a 6 or 8 button kpl.
elvisimprsntr Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 I just ran across this keypad that interfaces with the IOLinc http://www.smarthome.com/24950B1/I-O-Li ... Kit/p.aspx
gatchel Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 I just ran across this keypad that interfaces with the IOLinc http://www.smarthome.com/24950B1/I-O-Li ... Kit/p.aspx I looked at that, this was from the smarthome page. "you can have INSTEON-controlled lights and appliances turn on (or off) via the main relay output on the keypad which communicates through the included I/O Linc" That keypad doesn't provide a numeric signal to the IO linc. There is a relay on board that simply closes an input to the IO linc. The numbers are stored in the Keypad itself. The ISY of Elk will never know what code was entered. You could wire it directly to the Elk bypassing the IOlinc to do the same thing, if this is what you want. If I saw that keypad I would know that all I would have to do to bypass it would be rip it off the wall and manipulate the 2 non power wires to send a disarm to your alarm. Not a good thing. I would stick with an Elk keypad wired to the data bus or try the wiki keypad information listed above.
