SwitchLinc Dimmer losing connection

Hello,

 

I am in the process of setting up my network and have a problem with one circuit in particular. I suspected this was on a different phase so I purchased a dual band dimmer. I added it via the Admin Console by using the Start Linking button. The device appeared, clicking finish resulted in the process dialog appearing multiple times. At this point it appears to be in a happy state. As soon as I try to adjust or switch on or off the connection fails and the device gets an alert symbol in the Admin Console. When I try to pair the divide again it does not show up . When I initiate the pairing the PowerLinc Serial DualBand beeps, I then press and hold the on button on the SwitchLinc, it beeps the PowerLinc beeps and then flashes a number of times. I need to factory reset before it will show up again.

 

Any help or advice welcome.

First thing to do is the 4 tap Set button test to see if the other Dual Band device (I assume it is a 2413S PLM) and the Dual Band dimmer can hear each other’s RF signal and they are on opposite phases. In wall Dual Band devices do not seem to have as much range as an Access Point.

 

If the 4 tap Set button test indicates good communication between the PLM and the Dimmer look for devices on that circuit, cell phone charger, flat screen TV, CFLs, the usual set of devices that can interfere with Insteon communication.

Pressed the set button on the dimmer 4 times, started beeping. The 2413S started flashing. The dimmer and the 2413S are in the same room approximately 20 feet apart.

A Tools | Diagnostics | Event Viewer with Device communications events selected will show what if anything is coming back from the SwitchLinc. What type of load is connected to the SwitchLinc?

What else is on that particular circuit?

 

I've made an assumption that the other aspects of the Insteon installation are working as expected. There are other Insteon devices installed that are working?

You may want to try the Link Management. New Insteon Device method and pick the Auto Discover Choice. After typing in the six digit ID number and name choice in their respective lines.

 

Also what revision firmware are you using with your ISY99i?

I believe the dual band SwitchLinc Dimmer support was added in one of the 3.1.?? beta releases.

I have attached the event log. The device in question is 1b.1c.c1. It took a number ( at least 5 ) attempts to initialize the device. I see reverting to i1 on all occasions.

I tried 3.1.13 but was never able to initialize the device. Currently on 2.8.16

For sure there is a communications issue if it took so many tries to get it added to the ISY to begin with. Not being able to control it now is simply an extension of the basic issue.

 

There is not event log in the last post. Doubt it will show anything more that the ISY cannot communicate reliably with the device.

 

I don't think the 2.8.16 release will not know what a Dual Band SwitchLinc is. If the ISY indicates it is an unsupported device select a SwitchLinc Dimmer from the Device Type pulldown.

 

Lets reset and get a good picture of what is working.

 

Are there other Insteon devices currently added and working?

OK I updated to 3.1.12. Yes I have 3 other dimmers working correctly. They are on the same phase/circuit at the ISY. When I try to connect to the Dual Band SwitchLinc I get an error say it can't communicate. The following is the log that it output during this attempt.

There are comm problems in the last trace as well. There may be something interfering with the RF communication, cordless phone, wireless baby monitor, wireless intercom, something operating in the same RF band. Are there obstructions between the PLM and SwitchLinc.

 

Or the device could be defective. I put that possibility low on the list but it could be. Are there other Dual Band devices that can be put in the same location/

 

It is better to move to 3.1.13. It will not solve this problem but there are questions about 3.1.12 that should be resolved in 3.1.13.

It looked like my phone was the culprit but things are still not totally working. I am still getting the following errors when trying to connect a 2477D SwitchLinc dimmer to my ISY-99i (v.3.1.13) via a 2413S. When I perform the connection the 2413s produces a long beep followed by a number of LED flashes.

 

When I try to connect the same device to my old 2412N INSTEON Central Controller everything works as expected and the lights are controllable, which I guess implies that the 2413S is at fault.

 

Is there a way to hard reset the 2413S or update firmware ?
