snownh2o2 Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 My goal is to get down to one desktop computer in the house. Yet I still would like to access it in 4 different rooms. The monitor shouldn't be a big deal. I like to wire as much as possible and I have a multiple output graphics card, so I picked up some vga to cat5 adapters that seem to do a sufficient job. Audio can be added via may CAV6.6 system or I can upgrade to a HDMI graphics card and some HDMI to cat5(2 wires) adapters. My question pertains to adding keyboards and mice. I want them to be wireless and also have seperate ones in each room. Any ideas? Again I would like to hard wire as much as possible for reliability reasons. In my 'electronics bin' I have 2 old IR Airboards(PS/2) and a MS Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard set. I don't need to use them but the can be setup for testing if needed. The IR keyboards in the past have had issues, posibbly due to the monitors, though I have never had much luck with IR in genaral due to lack of knowledge. Note: I am in the process of researching/adding an IR network and will be posting some questions for advice on gear and setup in the IR section of this forum soon. My curisiosity makes me wonder if I can accomplish my goal via Bluetooth. However I have been unable to get the range via a centrally located bluetooth adapter. Is there a reliable way to have multiple dongles from one computer (they will never have to work simultaneously) OR repeat the BT signal in both directions? I help or other ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt
k7zpj Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Bluetooth is a short range protocol and not meant for long range use. My computer is Win7 and I have WIFI setup in the house. I use an iPAD running a Windows Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) app. It allows me to access the Win7 computer's desktop anywhere in the house on the iPad. I can also use the same iPad to control my isy99 and stream media from Win7 media center to my iPad. Regards, Bruce
celinha Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 3 wireless internet dongle continually stops working and I have to keep plugging it back in? I am using it because our BT HomeHub internet router has mysteriously given up the ghost (lights are on but not flickering). The dongle problem can't be because of that because it is an external connection? ________________________ yahoo keyword tool ~ overture ~ traffic estimator ~ adwords traffic estimator
