Relocating plm and advance options question

Featured Replies

I have been following ELA’s thread on comm. issues and have been thinking about moving the plm to an outlet at the main breaker panel. I would prefer to leave the ISY in my equipment room and run cat 5 to the panel for the plm. The cat 5 run would be less than 100ft. Would there be any communication issues between the ISY/plm or would it be better to move the ISY and plm to the panel?

2nd question. I am replacing my 2412s plm with a new 2413s modem. All of my devices are less than 3 years old, all have beep capabilities as well as dimmable LED’s so I am assuming all have v2 capabilities as well. I only have 2 rf devices, a triggerlinc and remotelinc. Can I set Advanced Options>Device Reported (right now it is set for Auto) in order to use the v2 (faster comm.) without any issues?

Thanks,

Tim

I believe I have read here. That some I2 devices don't implement the protocol properly or only support some of the protocol.

Hi Tim,

When I moved my System PLM I assumed that I had to move the ISY with it. The communications between the ISY & the PLM is RS232 and it could definitely have issues over 50ft. There are also a few other connections in the RJ45 connector that I thought should not be brought out over such a long distance (possibly becoming an antenna for noise) . You could get lucky but I opted to move the ISY with the PLM to keep that RS232 link short.

I instead used a 100ft cat6 cable between my computer room and the ISY (Ethernet link). The cat6 was more for the future since I did not want to go into the attic again later.

May I wish you a very Merry Improvement,

Ela
