I thought it would be a good idea to ask the UDI team as to how this new feature is enabled and deployed in a ISY / Insteon environment.

You can send Beep commands to devices that support Beep. In the Action section, choose Beep (in the same list as on/off/1% ... ).

 

Above and beyond that, we do not know how to configure the KPL to be a Chime!

Is it possible in future ISY firmware releases to make said beeper sound out for a specified time period as it done in the HL2 software?

 

Would that be something the UDI team could look into and consider doing? I know a program can be written to make it so but understand that the extra traffic could be a problem.

Have you actually tried the Beep under HL. The Beep duration has no affect on other devices which makes me think HL is simply repeating a Beep command multiple times if it actually does sound a longer Beep.

I haven't tried actually as other tasks have taken up my time. I plan on doing this later this week to see how it performs.

 

If this beep feature (chime) is being generated by continuous signal invoked by the HL2, I will not pursue this solution any further. As I do not want to hinder my system with extra traffic for no good reason.

 

Now, if the HL2 does simply invoke a one time command and the KPL does indeed continue to beep for what ever duration I have indicated via the HL2. Then, maybe this might be a solution I am willing to entertain.

 

The only draw back is that I will need to keep the server running which the HL2 is installed on! Which would negate my primary goal of limiting my power consumption foot print . . .

 

I would prefer to see this task performed by the ISY as its power consumption is extremely small.

 

I will see what arrives next week, install it, and then do some basic testing to see what happens and report back. More than likely you and the others are correct that the chime is simply a beep via a software solution from the HL2, which sends continuous signals to the KPL to beep / chime.

They have not given us any data in the Developers Forums yet for the 2487S.

So your findings will be dually noted.
