copart Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 My apologies if this was requested before, but I could not find it when I searched. I would like to be able to reboot my isy99 via rest. I find that my device starts requesting a dhcp address every few minutes after it has been up without a reboot for over a month for some reason. If I do not reboot it, eventually the device becomes unreachable and I am forced to manually reboot it. So, if I could reboot via rest, I could schedule a cronjob on another machine to reboot the device every so often. Thanks, Copart
Michel Kohanim Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Hello copart, Would you be kind enough to let me know: 1. What is your ISY's firmware version? 2. What is the lease duration? 3. Have you setup DHCP reservation for your ISY? 4. Is your router NetGear by any chance? Since we take system hang quite seriously, I would sincerely appreciate it if you could help us figure out the root cause for the problems you are having. With kind regards, Michel
copart Posted December 4, 2011 Author Posted December 4, 2011 Hi Michel, 1. What is your ISY's firmware version? 2.8.16 2. What is the lease duration? The default-lease-time on the DHCP server is 14400, or 4 hours. 3. Have you setup DHCP reservation for your ISY? I have not reserved the IP, I also have a local DNS so I can always find my ISY99 4. Is your router NetGear by any chance? No, the DHCP and DNS are handled by a CentOS 5 server.
Michel Kohanim Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Hello copart, When ISY keep trying to renew, do you still have access to it? Also, would you be kind enough to upgrade to 3.1.13? Thanks and with kind regards, Michel
copart Posted December 5, 2011 Author Posted December 5, 2011 I plan to upgrade, but was waiting for it to go out of beta, is it quite stable? I have some new Insteon stuff coming in the mail, including a replacement PLM (switching from older 2413 to the dual band 2413S), perhaps I will upgrade at this time. When it goes into the renew loop I am still able to access it, however, eventually it does stop responding. I have correlated the two events, however, I could be wrong. When I am unable to access it, the unit still works, for example, the scheduled tasks still execute. I really just wanted a way to reboot it via rest and probably would schedule a reboot every week or so. Hence why I posted to the feature requests. I think the rebote reboot option could be beneficial to the community regardless of why somebody wants to do it. By the way, I love the ISY99. I have tried quite a few of the software approaches in the past and nothing comes close to the ISY's power and reliability. -Copart
Michel Kohanim Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Hello Copart, Thanks so very much. I can say that 3.1.13 has been quite reliable. We have been running many stress test use cases and it has passed them with ease. I do understand the remote reboot REST call. I think our major hesitation has been security ... let me discuss with our team. With kind regards, Michel
