Hello all. I got into Home Automation using Insteon products when I bought my house in 2008. I run four ToggleLinc Relays, two LampLinc units and two Venstar thermostats (two story house, stat on each floor). I also have a RemoteLinc, and use an EZServ as a controller.

 

The EZServ is a HUGE disappointment, and as such, I'm going to be replacing it with an ISY99 soon. Heck, I'm kicking around the idea of ordering one NOW and just getting it over with.

 

I've been able to set up the EZServ to do most of what I want to, including responding to buttons on my RemoteLinc, and manually mapping out temperatures to their hexidecimal values for the thermostats.

 

Anyway, I want to get an ISY99 since it is MUCH more capable than the EZServ, but had a question about the programming capability of the unit. I know that if-then statements are used in programs on the ISY, but I'm curious to know if a program can poll a thermostat to obtain it's temperature reading, and then use it's output as input for the program.

 

Basically, I want to know if I can have a program do this:

 

"If the upstairs thermostat reads 75 degrees or higher, then set the thermostat to COOL 77 degrees ELSE if the thermostat reads 72 degrees or lower, then set the thermostat to HEAT 74 degrees"

 

I can't do this on the EZServe, so I have to run temperature programs off of timers, and I have to manually change the programs for the winter/summer change. PITA.

Absolutely. Without question you can do exactly what you are asking.

You can do that and more. I use the Weatherbug module for the isy-99 to get local temperature information and include it into my condition statements for the programs change the set points on my thermostat.

Awesome guys, thanks! This question is one of the major things I want to be able to accomplish, and it just lets me know the ISY99 is going to stomp a mud pit in the EZServ's behind.

 

I was looking around on the Wiki, and did see that you can set it to poll the thermostats, so I'm suspecting you can just make that part of a program.

 

Last night, I found a used ISY-99i IR on Amazon for a good price, so I went ahead and ordered it. Should be in next week. I'll be sure to get the firmware updated right off, and then the programming fun begins!

 

Also going to get Conductor on the phone and tablet.

I just wanted to make sure you are getting either a 2412S or 2413S plm with/for the ISY. It requires either one to operate. If you are going to use a 2413S you will also need the wall-wart power supply for the ISY. It is not required when using the 2412S.

Hey Tim, yeah, the seller is including a 'dual band PLM', but doesn't say what model it is. I would bet since it's a used unit, it's probably what the original buyer purchased.

I am very glad to hear the unit can do at least one of the things I want it to. Once it's in and set up, I'll then want to expand... a few outlets, a couple motion sensors...

There is only one Dual Band PLM. The 2413S Serial and the 2413U USB and with an ISY99i unit it would be a 2413S.

Was the needed power supply also included?

Got the ISY99 in today. It's a 99i-IR PRO, and the PLM is a 2413S.. but no power supply.

 

Oh well, I ordered one from Smarthome this morning. I won't have a real chance to sit down and get it up and running until at least Wednesday, but probably Thursday, anyway.

Michel, no, this was a used unit from a seller through Amazon.

 

Got a good deal on it, so I'm not too upset. Looking forward to getting it up and running soon.

Got everything in, and I'm starting to link everything now. Got one thermostat linked so far, and I like that everything is in actual degrees. This thing is SO much better than the EZServ!
