Just got my 99i pro. Hooked it up and I can get the admin console. However, when I start linking all I get is "Discovering Nodes Retry! What am I doing wrong (or not doing)?

That happens when Start Linking is initiated and not ended with the Finish button. NO interaction with any other ISY function should occur while in Start Linking. If Configuration tab can be accessed go there and click on Reboot in System section. If that is not an option power cycle the ISY.

so how long does this initial linking process take? I am not getting the "linking in progress" window. btw, I did the power off reset.

After you started the Linking process.

When you pushed the set button on the device you wanted to link to for I believe 3 or more seconds. Did anything happen?

Do you already have a large insteon installation with lots of links or are you installing a virgin system?

If you already have a links between your switches. The easiest thing might be to pick the single switch that has the most widespread links, and link that one. Then let the ISY do a spider link using the links from that switch to find the other switches and then cascade down using the links from those switches to find more switches. Depending on how many cross links you have this may find all, most, or not that many of your switches.

When you link that device, click on "keep links and add devices linked"

definitely a new setup. Before I click the linking tab, everything seems fine. I can access configuration and run diagnostic on the PLM. But if I select "linking" then things go wrong. I never get the "linking in progress" popup. But I do observe that when I start linking that the PLM beeps and the led starts blinking for what seems to be an a w f u l l y l o n g time. Another beep and the led is steady. But nothing on the admin console.

IIf the Start Linking popup does not appear there is likely a problem with the router or AV that is blocking the data the ISY is trying to push out to the Admin Console, AVAST is a common blocker, There are others, If the ISY cannot push the data out to the Admin Console it does not see the response from the PLM entering linking mode and the popup is not displayed. What AV are you using?

EDIT: the blinking LED on the PLM indicates it entered linking mode. It times out on its own after 4 minutes (?). By that time the devices that were to be identified should have been done by that time. None of that can proceed until the issue with the popup not appearing is resolved.

okay, I dropped the "shields" on AVAST and I got the pop-up and got the two devices on the system. So what is the magic cure for configuring AVAST?

Thank you so much LeeG. It definitely is AVAST, Now I need to figure out how to configure AVAST to allow the popup.

Sorry for the slow response. To tell you the truth I took a nap! I do not use AVAST but there are a number of posts on this forum that describe possible solutions. Use the forum Search facility and look for AVAST.

Thanks for the advice on AVAST; it worked and I am in business!
