LED Brigthness

Recommended Posts

I have a brand new Keypadlinc that I can't seem to change the on/off brightness for the LEDs. I can set different levels in the admin program, but it doesn't seem to change on the KPL. I am using 3.1.16 firmware. Otherwise, the KPL is working great.

Any known issues with this or anything I might be missing with regards to setting the brightness via the admin app?

Thanks,

I just changed the LED Brightness on one of my 6 button KPLs on 3.1.16.

Is it an 8 or 6 button KPL and what is the firmware of the kPL.

There are some number combinations that have no effect as the KPL hardware must maintain a certain spread of numbers to insure a visual distinction between On and Off.

What numbers are being set? 7/15 is max bright - 0/7 is minimum

I'm having the same issue. I'm using 7/15. I make the change in admin console then go back and it's set to 0/0 again

ISY-99i/IR PRO

Firmware 3.1.16 (2012-12-39)

6-button KPL v .39 (as displayed in ISY admin)

LED Setting: On=15 Off=7

Also, is it supposed to change the main (top/bottom) buttons or just the middle 4 buttons? In my case the numbers do "stick" in the admin panel after I set them, they just don't seem to affect the switch.

So is it not possible to set things like 0/0 if you wanted to have no lights ever or, or conversely, have 7/7 to not show any difference whether on or off but still have it lit?

Thanks!

All buttons are affected.

It is not possible to turn the LEDs off completely..That would make it impossible to visually know whether a particular Scene was On or Off or the action the button press will cause. Obviously the 6 button ON/OFF buttons do not need an LED but the others do as well as all buttons in 8 button mode.

The 7/7 is not a value the KPL hardware will react to as it would have the same affect as turning the LEDs off altogether. On and Off could not be differentiated. The hardware is going to keep what amounts to a differential of 8 between the Off and On LED levels.

0/7 is the lowest. 0/8, 0/9, 0/10, up through 0/15 will gradually increase LED brightness. 15 is the highest level for On level. At that point 1/15, 2/15, 3/15 up through 7/15 will continue to increase the LED brightness.

I know this might seem like a silly question but is there any way to adjust the top on and bottom off button brightness without a program?

I was able to easily to adjust the 4 middle buttons on the KPL 6 button using the Led Brightness function. Can't seem to find it for the afore mentioned ones.

All help appreciated.

Unless something has changed in the latest KeypadLinc firmware LED brightness adjustments apply to all the buttons including ON/OFF. That is, button A cannot be set to one brightness level and button B to a different level. What results are being seen and what is the KeypadLinc type (relay or dimmer) and what is the firmware level?

I am at work so I can't be sure but i believe it's a version 4. It seemed possible to set the led brightnes for each button as the setting was available for the 4 middle buttons. My specific issue was that the "on" level for the "off button" was super bright and lit up my whole bedroom.

I will check and report back.

There is method of putting the OFF button in something like a non-toggle Off mode. The OFF button is not illuminated when the KeypadLinc is Off. It is a KeypadLinc Set button sequence that I think is described in the KeypadLinc User Guide. If not there the Smarthome forum should have posts that describe the sequence as this question does come up. Don't think that special OFF not illuminated mode can be defined with the ISY.

LeeG, The ISY used to be able to turn Off the “Off†button illumination by putting the first node of the 6-button kpl into “Non-Toggle Mode Off.†But it no longer does in 3.2.0!

I rolled back to 3.1.17 and put the first node in non toggle off which turned off the Off button illumination after cycling the on off buttons on the kpl. The problem appears to be in 3.2.0. When putting the first node in non toggle off the ISY acts like it is writing but the changes do not impact the kpl.

Thanks for that info. I had a recollection of doing it in the past but tried on 3.2.0. When it did not work I assumed bad memory. Looks like something for UDI to look into. Did you run an event trace to compare what 3.1.17 is doing versus 3.2.0

That is very odd. 3.1.17 is using the more advanced I2 method for setting the configuration. For some reason 3.2.0 is using the old I1 Peek/Poke method. Not surprising it is not working.

Is this the same configuration, just different ISY images? Is the KeypadLinc firmware level displayed at 3.2.0. (not v.00)?

Does the Link Management | Advanced Optoions show Automatic at 3.2.0?

You were right, as usual, changing the brightness setting on one changes it for all. I used your advice as a starting point. You cannot select the off button and put it in non toggle mode. BUT, you CAN set the on button, first one in the KPL listing, to non toggle via the ISY and presto, the off back light is off when light is off.

Thanks.

I don't think it is LED Brightness per see. The event trace shows 3.1.17 uses I2 extended commands to update the configuration. 3.2.0 uses I1 Peek/Poke for the same configuration change for the same device. Does look like something checking if I2CS might have resulted in using I1 when not I2CS rather than use I2 if not I2CS. Just a guess.

If all worked that is great. UDI could not recreate what TJF1960 and I were seeing. At the recommendation of UDI I did a Restore Device. That resolved the problem here. Now the Restored device uses I2 as it did under 3.1.17.

Suggest trying a Restore Device. That restored the use of I2 for the device in 3.2.1.
