ISY994i/IR PRO & 2413s

Having a few weird issues with my brand new ISY994i/IR PRO. at first everything was working correctly, currently only have 6 outside flood lights connected via togglelinc switches working on a sunrise until 11:30pm schedule

fist thing i noticed is that a few days ago the power led was not lit. I was still able to access the unit normally and lights were working on schedule like they should. (at least i thought they were)

i then began to notice that one or two of the lights would either not turn on or turn off (randomly) i could manually turn them on/off from the interface just fine.

last night all of the sudden i noticed the power led was again lit but the lights were still behaving the same.

this morning the power light is no longer lit.

the unit is maybe two weeks old and was ordered through bestbuy. should i look to replace it due to the power light issue? or does that indicate something? what can i do to make sure the lights are turned off/on if there is a hiccup and it misses it.

i have a few programs including one that is querying all devices every 30 mins. see below

my previous setup was using homeseer so i would like to get this working and ditch the HS/PC setup

If

Time is Sunset + 15 minutes

Then

Set Scene 'Exterior Lights + Foyer Lamp' On

Else

- No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')

------------------------------------------------------------------------

If

On Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat

Time is 11:30:00PM

Then

Set Scene 'Exterior Lights + Foyer Lamp' Off

Else

- No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

If

Time is Last Run Time for 'Exterior Daytime' + 30 minutes

Then

Set Scene 'ISY (All Devices)' Query

Else

- No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')

Factory Query Program

Hello morreale,

Sincere apologies for the problems you are having. The power LED is definitely a defect and you can either have the unit replaced through Best Buy or you could send an RMA request to sales@universal-devices.com.

You will not lose any of your current programs as long as you backup your ISY and then restore it on the replacement unit.

Now, as far as the scenes not working:

1. Would you be kind enough to check the Program Summary tab and make sure that the Last runtime is accurate? If so, then go to step 2

2. If the programs actually ran, thus the problem seems to be INSTEON signal related. Do you have any SwitchLinc v35s? If so, then they must be replaced as they do cause intermittent network issues

Another way to test the scenes is to right mouse click on the scene and then choose Diagnostics | Scene Test. Do all succeed?

Again, sincere apologies.

With kind regards,

Michel

thanks for the quick reply.

i do actually have 3 SwitchLinc Dimmers in my MediaRoom that i forgot to mention (one v.35 & two v.27) funny that you said that since just tonight i started getting an error saying it was unable to communicate with that switch.

is there a thread anywhere that list devices with known issues?

do you offer a cross ship option for the rma or any other method as to limit my downtime?

  • 2 weeks later...

my ISY994i has now been replaced and the v35 SwitchLincs removed. I am still having sporadic performance with the lights. How do you make the system verify if the lights are indeed on? They are all showing as on but some of them are not. I have a query running every 30 minutes (i thought that would fix the issue) if turn the scene on again or the devices that are not on they turn on/off just fine. the issue happens when either turning the devices on or off.

It is good that you replaced your defective, and potentially defective, devices.

quick confirmation of what I hope is understood:

a. do you have access points or other dual-band devices to provide insteon communication between legs of your electrical system?

b. have you plugged your PLM in, or on the same circuit as a UPS or surge suppressor? Do you have any of these devices?

c. have you plugged your PLM into an outlet with lots of other computer stuff?

d. do you have any X-10 devices?

a. 4 Access Points

b. no, yes

c. no

d. 1 x10 motion sensor that controls an x10 switch and a x10 receiver (that will be replaced shortly)

How do you make the system verify if the lights are indeed on?

My experience is that the ISY status remains pretty faithful to truth. To verify, the only way that I know is to run a query, as you have done. Unfortunately, the problems that cause it to be out of sync can also affect query results.

There are, however, a few times that I have experienced problems. One is when experiencing communication problems. The other, if I recall, was associated with firewall and java issues (I don't recall specifically which). I have been swapping out browsers between chrome and explorer (currently using the latter) but each swap appeared to cause temporary issues with the admin panel status not keeping sync. Unfortunately, my methods with firewall and jave issues is trial-and-error rather than skill.

yes they do respond properly sometime. it isn't always the same switch that doesn't turn on/off.

is there no way to have the device verify the state of a switch and address it?

my query runs every 30 minutes and once it runs it corrects the status of the switch. i could always write a program to turn it off/on again.

Hello morreale,

I am afraid that there's really something wrong with the INSTEON setup. What you are experiencing is not normal and adding queries and checking the status simply masks the cause of all these problems.

Is it possible to run the scene test during those times that the programs are supposed to run? Perhaps at those moments there are devices on that contribute to the instability of INSTEON signals.

With kind regards,

Michel
