Help!! Major Issues with Wireless Devices

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've been a long time user of Insteon - I mean like 7 years and I have a ton of devices connected. Recently "something" happened, and I don't know what it was or what to do. All of a sudden, my motion sensors would not connect anymore (via the ISY or not). I assumed my access points were dead, so I bought 2 new ones. No luck, and I wasn't able to get the LEDs to show properly on the access points indicating that I had bridged my phases successfully even though I had them in the same place they had always been when everything worked. So now I've got 2 new access points that didn't fix anything. I thought maybe my motion sensors both broke at the same time, so I bought some of the new RemoteLinc 2 switches as something else to connect via RF. No luck getting those connected either. Then I bought Dual-Band dimmers hoping that I could use those to connect instead of the access points. No luck with those either. Anyway, I'm a whole lot poorer and still don't have things back to the way they were. HELP!!!!! I'm a pretty technical person, and have no idea what to do here.

Pull the batteries in all the RF devices. If you have a tstat adaptor(s) unplug it. Air gap all the Dual Band wired devices. With 4 Access Points it must be possible to get RF communication and on opposite phases with all RF devices no longer able to generate RF. If not there is something generating RF in the same frequency range such a new cordless phone (could be a neighbors).

Hi osullys,

In addition to LeeG's very important points:

1. If you have any thermostat adapters, they could be the culprit

2. If you have any SwitchLinc Dimmers v35, they could be the culprit

3. In addition to cordless phones, we have found VERY MANY cases of baby monitors wrecking havoc on INSTEON RF communications

With kind regards,

Michel

I recently had a similar issue where all of my wireless Insteaon devices (mostly 2420 Motion Sensors) seemed to be having problems sending commands. I eventually discovered one of the Motion Sensors seemed to have "lost its mind" and was continuously transmitting something that was interfering with the transmissions from the other devices. Once I pulled the battery on that one 2420 motion detector, everything else started working fine again.

So you might try removing the batteries from all of your wireless devices and then turning them back on one at a time to see if one of them is acting up.
