Fanlinc with Keypadlinc and 3 speeds with Off

I have an ISY-99i/IR Pro. It has v.3.2.6 installed on it. The JAVA cache has been cleared.

I just got a new Fanlinc. I also got a brand new dual band 6 button Keypadlinc. And I purchased the custom keys with Fan Off, Fan Low, Fan Med and Fan High.

My intentions were to use buttons A, B, C and D just as the custom buttons were set up for to control the 3 speeds and the off mode of the fan motor.

I added both devices to the ISY with no problems.

I have played with it a bit but after reading posts I ultimately came down to using 4 scenes to control the operation. I had followed something the Lee G had posted.

I have a Scene called Play Rm Fan Off.

Play Rm KPL Button A is the controller.

Play Rm Fanlinc-Motor is a responder.

Play Rm KPL Button B is a responder.

Play Rm KPL Button C is a responder.

Play Rm KPL Button D is a responder.

If I click on the scene name the only thing that shows up in the lower panel on the right is the fan speed of the motor and I have that set to Off.

If I click on the controller, KPL Button A, in the lower panel on the right I have four things listed. The Fanlinc-Motor, KPL Buttons B, C and D. I have the level for all of them as off.

I created another Scene for Low Speed and it is a duplicate of the scene above except that KPL Button B is the controller and all of the others are responders.

When I click on the scene, just like the one above in the lower panel it only shows the Fanlinc-Motor and this is set to Low.

When I click on the controller, KPL Button B, in the lower panel on the right I have four things listed. The Fanlinc-Motor, KPL Buttons A, C and D. I have the level for the motor as Low and Buttons A, C and D as off. Well, really it's 0, but we are splitting hairs there.

I have another Scene for Med and for High and they are created just like the ones above.

I have the button modes all as toggle and non of the buttons are grouped. After I tried to group them and saw the warning I did as was suggested and tried to accomplish this with scenes.

Let's start with only button A on. If I push button B, A goes off and the fan goes to low speed. If I push button C, B goes off and the fan goes to medium speed. If I push button D, C goes off and the fan goes to high speed. Great. Just like I want.

Now I push button C and the fan goes to medium and button D goes off. If I push button B the fan goes to low and button C goes off. If I push button A the fan goes off and button B goes off. Great. Perfect.

If I go from button A to button D the fan goes up to high speed and button A goes off. If I now press button A the fan goes off, but now I have button A and D lit up.

So while in that mode I press button C and both A and D go off and the fan goes to medium.

If I now press button A, button C stays lit, but the fan goes off.

If I press button D and make all the other buttons turn off and the fan goes to high speed, then I press button B, the fan slows down, but button D stays lit.

I would like to accomplish this with scenes and not involve programs and the ISY. Is there something I am missing here?

Verify that Help| About shows 3.2.6 for Firmware and UI.

What is displayed for the KeypadLinc as far as type of device and firmware level?

Double check each Controller button under each Scene name. Be sure all the Secondary buttons are set of 0% On Level. Sounds like some were missed.

Help About shows Firmware Insteon_UD99 V.3.2.6 (2012-05-04-00:26:24)

Keypadlinc shows up as (2478S) Dual Band KeypadLinc Relay v.40

Before making any changes I went to each of the four scenes and moved the mouse to each slider and then clicked on it without moving it to get the pop up display of percentage. Each and every slider was at 0% in each scene.

Lee, the thing about the 0% off level. When you go to change this level you get a pop up Confirm dialog that says

Play Rm KPL Button B is a device that does not support On Level. What would you like to do?

On Off Cancel.

I went back to each scene and moved the level up to something in between 0 and 100 to get the confirm dialog and made each one go to 100%. If you move one all the way back to 0%, the Confirm dialog does not show up. I went into each scene and moved each slider to a point to get it to pop up the confirm dialog and made the level go to on. Then I went back to each slider and moved it down enough to make the confirm dialog pop up and then told it to make it go to off. Each and every time I watched and waited as the ISY wrote the changes to the device.

I checked the switch after doing this and it does in fact work correctly now. Yesterday when I was checking each scene I did in fact click on each slider and make sure the slider level was 0%. Today, I did not move the slider to 0% on my own, I made the Confirm dialog open and have the ISY make me choose Off or On. And I think I can distinctly remember yesterday that some of them I moved all the way to 0% and didn't get the confirm box and some of them I did.

The troubling part is that I confirmed each and every slider again today and they were all at 0%. The only thing I can guess is that something didn't get written to the switch properly, or having the ISY force the level to OFF - (0%) made sure that it was truly and fully at 0%.

Thanks for your help Lee.

One other thing. And the reason I note it is because of a previous post Lee helped a Mobilinc user with.

If I go to the web interface and use the button to turn one of my speed scenes on, all four of the lights on the Keypadlinc turn on for each of the four buttons. No matter what speed scene I use. Or even the off scene. If I go back and physically press the buttons on the Keypadlinc they "right" themselves.

The fan will follow the speed that it is being asked to go to, just that the switch does something that I wouldn't expect it to do.

I have seen other posts on here about the interaction of devices and things that were not anticipated because of "electronic" key presses instead of "physical" key presses of device.

There have been cases reported where the On Level slider is moved to a new location but a progress bar is not displayed indicating Java did not notify the Admin Console of the slider movement. That may have been the case here for some of the Secondary button On Level slider movement. I like the technique you used to position the slider to some midpoint to force the On/Off choice dialog. A Secondary button cannot be set to anything other than On (100%) or Off (0%) which is why the popup if the slider is moved to a location in the middle.

The Secondary button reaction when the ISY Scene name is used is expected. UDI has posted in other topics it does not support setting Secondary buttons to anything but 100% when the KeypadLinc is controlled from another device (PLM is Controller in the case of using the Scene name). Up until the v.40 KeypadLinc firmware the KPL did not support an On command from another device turning Off a Secondary button LED (0% On Level). The lack of this support in the KeypadLinc forced users to write special ISY Programs to do Secondary button LED management. Now that the new v.40 KeypadLinc firmware does support a Scene On command from another device turning Off Secondary KeypadLinc button LEDs I would hope UDI will eventually support that feature. You noted the situation when selecting the ISY Scene name, the only slider displayed was the FanLinc Fan as a Responder. When the ISY supports v.40 firmware there will be sliders for the Secondary buttons as well.
