Steven Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 It worked when I set the system up a couple of years ago. Now I just upgraded to 3.2.6 and a new Insteon LED bulb, and ran into trouble. The first symptom is that the ISY-99i can't seem to communicate with my RemoteLinc. It talks to everything else, which are all plugged in. The RemoteLinc can communicate with all the other devices, but when I turn a lamp on or off, it sends the single to the responder just fine, but it beeps after a while when it can't get a response from the ISY-99i. So I tried the reset procedure for the 2413S, where you unplug it for a while, then plug it in holding the set button. No beeps, nothing happens but the red light stays on until I release the button, and the light goes off. The phase test mode only seems to work sometimes. The next time I tried the reset it started making this awful sound when I released the button, but again the light was off. Does this sound like my modem is bad?
Michel Kohanim Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 Steven, I am so very sorry to hear. Unfortunately but factory resetting your PLM now ISY has lost all the links to the devices/PLM. The first thing you have to do is to do a File | Restore Modem (PLM) ... this should regenerate the links in the PLM. Why are you so certain that it's the PLM that's not responding and NOT one of the devices for which the RL is the controller? With kind regards, Michel
Steven Posted July 15, 2012 Author Posted July 15, 2012 The first thing you have to do is to do a File | Restore Modem (PLM) ... this should regenerate the links in the PLM. Thank you. After reading your message, I tried this. After a (long) while, it said: "Failed resetting the PLM [-200000/-30]" Why are you so certain that it's the PLM that's not responding and NOT one of the devices for which the RL is the controller? Because the RL reliably (100%) controls all the devices for which it is the controller. Also, the PLM does behave consistently, and does not behave as the manual specifies. The manual says: [*:1viy23ni]To reset PowerLinc Modem to its original factory setting, unplug it from the wall outlet and wait 10 seconds. While pressing and holding the Set button, plug it back in. A long beep will sound; continue holding the Set button until the beep stops and release. After several seconds, the Status LED should turn on, indicating the reset is complete. This does not happen. I have ordered a replacement PLM from SmartHome.
Michel Kohanim Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Thank you. Please keep us posted. With kind regards, Michel
Steven Posted September 9, 2014 Author Posted September 9, 2014 The replacement 2413S lasted about 24 months, then it died. Many others have reported this failure. I asked Smart Home if the 2412S has a better life expectancy and if the 2413S can be repaired. Is there another option?

Brian H Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Changing the capacitors in the 2413S has been reported to fix things. By a few members now. In the future. Universal Devices Inc. is developing their own PLM. That should be much better design wise. The old discontinued 2412S was built on a completely different type power supply design. Depending on link database size and firmware. Had their own issues.
